mainstream video card thoughts
well...this week a few more official benchmarks came out for the 6600GT, and it's obviously blowing away the competition. and w/ the x700pro being somewhat of a disapointment ATi needs to do something fast. they've already released the exellent x800xl, but 300 is a little high for the mainstream market
so what do i think they should do to counter the 6600GT? release a new card? nope...they should lower the price of a few they already have.
slash the 9800XT price down to 220USD (the same price as the 6600GT) and bring the 9800Pro down to 180. then give the 9600XT a boot from 160 down to 130.
i've heard rumors of nvidia bringing the price of the 6800GT down to 300 to compete w/ the x800xl (which is now being shown to almost break even w/ the 6800GT, or as DH shows, beating it.). if that happens ATI should lower the price of the x800xt to 375, the x800pro to 350 (or lower) and officially retire the x800xtpe name (if they haven't already). with the x800xt at 375 it would force nvidia to bring down the price of the 6800U. and the x850 series would be the only one at the 500 mark.
also it would be great to see an agp version of the XL
just my thoughts, of course it probably won't happen for a few months/years...but it's nice to dream. what do you guys think?
