When is it time to upgrade?
I don't know if beginning a new thread for this is the most brilliant plan, but i'm sure there are many others out there looking for some good information on the most current mid-range and top of the line video cards, and what kinds of effects they should have for your system. Unfortunately, i must start this thread out with a question of my own. Copied and pasted, in case some of you noticed the failure of meshing.
I currently am using a Radeon 9000 pro with the latest ATI drivers.
Should i upgrade my card nowdays? I've got an Athlon64 3000+ 2.0GHz, 2*256MB Dual channel ddr, and Chaintech's ZNF3-250 mobo, and i am seeing extreme chop while running Doom 3 (with lowlowlow settings). Thanks a lot for feedback!!!!

honestly, the 9800 pro is still an EXCELLENT video card today, producing some damn good results at various resolutions. No it won't give you the brute force that the 6800 might give, but it's well above the Midrange zone today still. Cheap as hell to.
Definitely need a new card if you want to play doom 3... that 9000 pro is god, but not nearly that good If you can afford it, and doom 3 is your main concern, 6800 would be your choice

you have a good system no need to upgrade...
all you need is a great Graphics card and your set...
spend as much as you can on a good card and if you get a x800pro and above you wont need to upgrade for the next 2 years maybe...

512MB RAM is also low for the latest games. Double it. It saddens my heart to see that people still go with just 2x256MB only to get dual channel.

For good midrange cards look at the 9800pro, or for a little more, the 6600gt. They play d3 just fine.
