Asus X800 & SmartDoc
Smart, my ass. Anyone been able to get this software running with an AX800 AGP? I am using the latest version of the software and of the "enhanced" drivers. . .no dice. "Can not find graphic card information."
TIA,
rasta
p.s. And no, tech support won't email me back. Maybe if someone around here had a relationship with them (*cof* *cof* Z *cof* *cof*). . .

yeah I talk to the tech guys quite a bit in ASUS and they helped a lot with the AX800 PCIe card here DH Review: Asus AX800XT
Are you running the newest smartdoctor and have you checked the ASUS site for any updates to the bios?

Yessir, I am running all Asus components dated 10/1/04, and there is no BIOS update for the AGP card (although interestingly, the one you mention in your review is on the Asus FTP site).

Have same issue or similar. I have the VIVO model (AX800 pro VTD, AGP), and after trying the driver provided on the CD or the latest from their website along with the enhanced driver, I get the install to start up fine, but upon clicking on the "next" button, I can see in the install window "install options" that the smartdoctor will be installed only with the manual overclocking option, no other feature. After installing, I can see that the manual overclock does not work as i see the sliders, but nothing else, like core or mem speed, ad most the the buttons when clicking do not work.
This is the 3rd Asus graphics card with a ATI chip that I have either owned or tried out, the previous ones were 9600XT and same exact thing, wether I installed it on a fresh XP or not. I guess Smartdoctor is not compatible with Gigabyte motherboards !
As a side note, every time I got a Asus card, it was mostly circumstantial. Either I was looking for or ordered a different brand (Built by ATI 1st, and then anything that gets great reviews on many sites) and each time, I ended up with Asus, because they end up filling up distributors inventory faster than other brands around Montreal or Québec city.
Just like other people mentionned in this forum, whenever you get a product of that type that is not entirely based on reference design, you can expose yourself to all sorts of issues.

I have an Asus X800 and have tried the smartdoctror prog (Although i use ATITray under normal circumstances).
In order to work the "Asus Enchanced Driver" has to be installed over the top of your current Catalyst instalation. It needs reinstalling everytime you update the catalyst drivers. Asus versions arnt needed and take forever to be updated.
For some odd reason the ax800 updates page lists 3 file versions of smartdoctor released on 24/11/04. Only one of them is ati version, the others seem to look for nvidia hardware. 4.55 seems to be for us. 4.60 didnt work and could be for there new pci-e cards.
Asus's download database needs some work . They should also inlcude Asus Digital videorecorder in the X800 sections, since I needed an app for the vivo stuff. had to get it from their 9800 section.
The buddled cyberlink software is crap (as is the entire cyberlink range in my opinion, all budget software), it was just far to slow to use and dropped many frames.
Just one last note, the versions from packaged driver cd work fine with the card also.

Hmm, so you installed CATs first, then Enhanced, then SmartDoc?
I will try that. As for the versions, if you look in the setup directory, there are files in there for both nV and ATi, so I think they are intended to be universal (although it is interesting that 4.55 worked for you but not 4.6).
Thanks for the input.
