ATI 9800 Video Display Problems as described by a n00b

Greetings:

I just purchased the 9800 Pro 128mb and have not got it to work right, from the get go.

I have 2 main issues. First and foremost there is a display glitch in windows no programs or games running. See example below. goes from bottom left corner to upper right screen in blocks like a staircase, fills the whole screen.

___

Second is when in any games, i.e. Call of Duty, Wolfenstein etc.. I have poles sticking out of people and objects and they seem to get worse as the game goes on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have done a clean install of Win XP Pro loaded the latest drivers etc etc but still nothing.

Systems is as follows:

Win XP Pro 512mb DDR SP1 not SP2
ASUS AV7800 Mobo
Amd Sempron 2800+
Direct X 9.0c
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
Mad Dog 550 Watt PS

what drivers are you using? and did you buy it brand new or second hand?

cos that could either be a softmod causing it by unlocking non existant pipes causing the errors, or the memory on the card is faulty.

To be quite hinest I am surprised that a Brand New ATI 9800 would be *@& right out of the box. I hope this is not a indication of them being bad cards....
