get the XT as it's cheaper, and will almsot always achieve PE speeds with minimal effort.
As for make....visiontek has a lifetiem warranty

although the xt can achieve pe specs easily, some of us are quite picky as to what the control panel says.
if it could still be found, i'd get a BBA x800xt pe . If not, a sapphire, asus, or gigabyte would be other brands of choice.

of course you can, but would you want to risk losing a $450 + tax (US) piece of equipment just for it to say "pe" at the end in the control panel?

Pro=Very Good over clocker 12 pipes, clocks 475/450
many o/c's to xt pe speeds
readily available
XT =Very Poor over clocker 16 pipes, clocks 500/500,
youd be lucky if you can o/c to pe
readily available
XT PE = Good Over clocker 16 pipes, clocks 520/520
(funny ati's site compair says 575/520) o/cs well
Current ETA Nov 15th, scarce
http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/
I'd wait and get and x800xt pe but thats just me...
You want a card that over clocks well .... even if you run it stock

Nonsense. ive played with 7 plain XTs and they all overclocked well past PE speeds. The PE isnt worth the premium IMO.

although that the x800pro OCs to xt speeds, it still does not fullfill the xt requirements by having the extra 4 pipelines.
as far as the availability of the x800xt pe, i get the gigabyte version of the card quite often at my work .

well you arent in the USA otherwise id recommend a visiontek card as they are basically built by ATIs with lifetime warranty.
Depends on your budget go for ASUS or whichever card is the best price - you cant really go wrong with any of the XT makers.

So what is the actual difference between the XT and PE to justify the extra cost, there are only Pro and XT available here where i am in australia and neither of them are easy to get, 6800 ultra is not easy to get either, my mate and i had to order and wait ages to get them.

you're starting to sound like me ;p
personally tho id go for the PE the extra pipes are handy, i know you can mod the XT for the extra pipes but after seeing that warning in the sticky thread id rather save the risk!

Both the XT and XTPE have 16 pipes - they are identical in all respects from pipeline structure to all the technology, 3DC etc....... you dont need to flash it. you can overclock the card from 500/500 to 520/560 with software like ATI tool, simple as that.

Yeah you are thinking of the X800pro which is 12 pipes - that requires more work
