Which to get? 9800PRO ? X700XT? 6600GT?

I don't know which to buy, the reviews are confusing, in firingsquad review the 9800PRO performs good or better than the X700XT and 6600GT, but in another review the 9800XT (which is faster 9800PRO) gets 6809 3Dmarks and the X700XT/6600GT get more than 8000 3dmarks.

If you are limiting your choices to a 9800 Pro or the new X700XT, I would go ahead and choose the new 700. It is theoretically faster than my 9800XT at about half to 2/3 the price.

However...having said that...the 700XT only has 128MB of memory, which can really show it's limitations in games like FarCry or the new Doom.

Come to think of it, besides the aforementioned better 3dMarks, I'm a little lost on this issue as well.

This is for AGP? Are there X700XTs for AGP? Some say there maybe X700s for AGP, but nothing is official yet. Some even said third party developers will do it.

I'd say it really depends how much you're paying..I am glad I didn't dish out for a 9800XT, as I don't see the performance gain worth how much they are/were charging more for the XT. Haven't gotten into the x700s much yet myself, but my gut feeling is saying the x700 will be like a x800 SE line..I'm planning to go with a x800xt for my next upgrade from this 9800pro (128) for sure.

Also, 128mb ram is not appealing to me at all, as these games are getting bigger and bigger by the day...I would suggest the little bit of extra cash for at least something 256mb, with the future in mind.

If you have PCI-E then X700; if you're still on AGP then get the 9800 Pro.

Thanks all.

I'm gonna get a new mobo/cpu too, probably amd64/s754 and use that with my current agp card until the 6600gt comes out on agp.

An other option I was thinking about is p4 540 3.2GHz / s775 with pci-e mainboard
that would probably be more future proof but amd64 seems much better in games so its still a hard choice.

Yeah, that sounds like a cost effective path. Just perhaps by then ATI might have seen a need to put out an X700 for AGP as well. PCIe shouldn't really become a market-"must have" until 2006.

I had my mind set on the 6600GT, but looking at this makes me wonder again: http://techreport.com/etc/2004q3/3dmark05/index.x?pg=5
