I have a amd athlon xp 3000+ with 512ddram and an abit kv7 motherboard with and ati radeon 9000 running win xp pro

it gives me that windows error, doom3 has encountered a problem and needs to shut down, and it has the send report or dont
one time the error had to do with file atioglxx.dll

hrmmm run ti at low settings at 800x600 and make sure AA/AF is OFF then try again...if that doesn't work, give the beta 4.9's a shot (they are stickied in the ati driver forum)

does it matter what my win desktop settings are? Also it is running at low quality in the game and I put the new drivers in earlier today.
What is the aa/af?

sounds to me like a corrupt driver install.
mebbe the game is just highlighting that by crashing all the time.

i`d use drivercleaner, and re install them mate........mebbe it`ll work then.

mine works fine BTW....

I got the same error after turning caching on in the doomconfig.cfg file. If you messed with that file fix it.

The option is:

seta image_useCache "0" <--Keep it Zero so Doom 3 doesn't crash.

I wonder what it could be, this is really annoying. Should I call ati tomorrow? Would they offer any help worth a crap?

I was gettin that error too, then I realized I had the CS optimized openGL drivers installed. After switching to the newest openGL driver it works fine for me.

why do you have two topics running about the same problem?

it could be a driver conflict...make sure that when you run driver cleaner you take out all of the other video drivers as well, and then run cab cleaner (found in driver cleaner's tools menu)

Pissed

I too am having problems with the 4.9 catalyst drivers.. i installed them before i installed doom 3 thinking they will optimize my system... I am running 3 gig p4 HT, 512mb pc 3200 corsair dual channel ram, Asus Deluxe p4p800 Mthb, 160 gig sata Seagate hdd, 80 gig seagate barricuda, ati 9700 pro, and windows xp.

The game will just crash while it is running. no errors.. just a straight out crash into xp. I stole my save game from my brothers pc and are playing that. im not sure if its that causing the problem or what but something is not right.. i tend to think its the drivers.. anyone with any ideas?

No I am sayin that the reason I got the error was I had the CS optimized OpenGl installed that you are given the option to install with the Omega Drivers. I switched to the regual OpenGl driver by using the OGL driver swapper that comes with the Omega Radeon Drivers. Sorry for the confusion.

that's why i dont use beta drivers :/. they probably work better with doom 3 but most likely have problems with other games. not worth the risk, imo.

If smartgart is set to AGP 0x you may want to ensure your motherboard agp drivers are installed.

EEK! 9600 freezing up in Doom 3

Hi. I am using the moded driver's from this website which have been good to me so far. I reinstalled them and just to be sure reinstalled directX but all that I'm pretty sure was good to begin with (just did it to be sure). Anyway, after a few minutes, say 10 or so the computer freezes up and needs to be cold booted. A few times I did get an error message about my ATI card and the game was able to continue but this usually isn't the case.
I have a mobility 9600 with the most recent catalyst driver. A P4 3.2 ghz, 768 megs of SD Ram etc. etc. I read about the driver cleaner and might try it if this continues. It looks a bit complicated though. I haven't tried Omega drivers but it sounds like some people might have had luck with it. I am about to try the Doom hotfix thingy. I don't know what it is but it looks like a new version of the ati driver right? Anyway, I just wanted to add my piece and try to resolve this issue. Thank you for any help. -Nathan
I just tried the Omega drivers and that still didn't work for me so I guess I'll go back and use the driver clean sweep program then install 4.9 catalyst.

Smilie Aha! the driver cleaner fixed it

I'm surprised that the game is working now without freezing. I'm now running the 4.9 beta driver the link is: (if you missed it on the forum) http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4547.html
Anyway, thank you for your advice. I was surprised to see the driver cleaner was necessary and fixed this issue.
http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/
(follow the readme and do it in safe mode)
I had tried 3 different drivers (4.7 catalyst, 4.9 beta, and Omega drivers) which all had the same problem (game would lock up after 10 minutes).
Cheers -N
