ati x800 affects hard drive
I don't know where else to post this, but I have a strange occurence.
I installed latest omega drivers for my x800 pro, and I saw a program installed, called "atitool"
I opened it and was very pleased to see all the functions, including an artifact tester. However, when I run the artifact tester, I hear a "click" from my primary HDD, and the HDD light starts blinking like it is being accessed constantly. Is this normal? I also noticed if I move the 3d window, the drive clicks again, and when I stop moving the window, it clicks again. It almost sounds like the drive is powering on and off. Here are all my specs:
Asus K8V Mobo
Tagan 480 Watt Power Supply
Athlon 64 3200 2.0 Ghz
1GB Infinion PC 3200 400MHz Dual Channel DDR
VisionTek Xtasy ATI Radeon X800 Pro @Stock speeds
Master HDD Western Digital 20GB
Slave HDD Western Digital 100GB
Windows XP SP1, NT File System
I just did a reformat, so I havn't installed anything except the basic Via 4in1, Internal LAN drivers, Omega Drivers, all the windows updates, and Mozill Firefox. haven't installed my sound card yet. Haven't messed with any XP services, startup options, registry edits, etc. My paging file is set to 1024-3072 MB on the slave drive.
And just as a reference, my X800 runs at about 47c idle, and 71c-77c when the artifact tester was running. Room temp is about 75F. I was worried until I read the temperature post, thanks for that.
So is this hard drive accessing normal? So far it hasn't caused any problems, cause I havn't really tested it with games yet.

my drives don't click, but then i have those new really quiet 2 platter seagates...so i dunno...that doesn't sound liek a normal thing tho
i would say it's your PSU nto having the juice and so the HDDs realyl are turnign on and off....but at 480 watts, i dont see that beeing the case....try reinstalling atitool maybe?

Can you provide us a model number of the TAGAN power supply? (it may be rated 480 watts... but what's the rails on the 12 volt? )

model
The Model # is TG480-U01, In Asus Probe my 12 volt monitor is fluctuating between 10 and 12 when I run the artifact tester. That seems bad to me.

 I'd say so
only %5 normal near and over 10% out of spec you run into issues...
10V = about 20%! out of spec
Check the rails useing a digital multi meter to be sure. The on board chips can be inccorect sonsideing thier uncalibrated

10V = 17%.....lol, but yea...10V will run you into serious issues, even the low 11's can still cause you issues...i think mine is running 11.8?
