Asus A9800XT Problem
I want to love this card, I really do. I seem to have this recurring problem with it, though.
The application in question is currently Final Fantasy XI. I'll be in the game for about ten minutes or so, then the system will completely lock up and, thank God for the VPU Recover, I'm completely ejected from the game. This is problematic for many reasons in an MMO game, but I'm not really concerned about that. I'm worried as all heck about my GPU, though. I've tried reinstalling the Omega drivers, but that hasn't helped any.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was really hoping that wouldn't come up.
I'll contact InfinityPC right away. Thank you very much for your help.

np man, usually the only thing u have to pay for is the shipping back to the company. w/ both of my cards i recieved the replacement less than a week after i shipped it.
my first was a sapphire radeon 9000 that i sent back to sapphire. the second was an aopen (i was stupid then) aeolus fx5600xt that i sent back to newegg.
the new cards went in w/out a hitch

I don't mind paying shipping, I've just been waiting to build this computer for literally four years (it's my college graduation present) and I'm a little bummed that it doesn't fly like I want it to.
Plus, I'm having the worst withdrawls from Final Fantasy XI right now...
Hi, everyone. I'm Chris and I'm an FFXI-aholic.

lol, i'm building my HS graduation computer right now i understand how much it sux to wait.
all i need now is another stick of ram and to send in my extra hard drive to get it replaced. then i will have my own pc and my mom can stop worrying about me screwing up hers.
but now already it sets in..."well, once i get my ram do i want to upgrade to the Nf7-s? if i do then i can have dual channel...and do if i do that...why then all i have to do to make another whole pc out of my old mobo is get another processor and a case/PS combo, and a cheap HDD!! wow! i could have another hole pc!"
and 300 more dollars go out the window

I hear that, bro. Now that I have an income (SCARY ) I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to resist upgrading the crap out of this new rig of mine. There are five things I love in life: my God, my family, my girlfriend, myself, and my electronics. The distribution used to be pretty even, but now I'm just plain afraid. lol

Okay, so get this...
As a last ditch effort, I head over to the GameFAQs forums and ask the Windows/DOS board if any of them has any clue what ails my GPU.
His response was simple:
disable "fast write" on the smartgart tab
After I did that, I tried out Final Fantasy XI and... no crash! I tried everything I could to get the darn thing to crash and nothing. So, it would appear that my GPU is healthy again, thanks to what I suppose could be considered slow writing.
So what the heck is "fast write" and why would such a "feature" which does nothing but crash the machine it "enhances" exist? What kind of GPUs can use this thing?

Okay, now I'm starting to get angry.
I thought the problem was gone, but now it's just unpredictable. Before, I could set my watch by the problem, but now all it does is get me killed in the middle of a game.
So whaddya think? Hardware problem? With system lockups like this, there's no way it's software-related.
