??? Monitor fizzle caused by card?

Hey,
a friend of mine recently got a ASUS Radeon 9800 pro (exactly like mine) and he´s having this weird glitch; after booting up, and right after the desktop is loaded, and the ASUS Smartdoctor program is kicking in, the monitor blackens (like it´s going into hybernation mode) and sometimes it really turns off, and the only way to get it back again is to reboot the PC. I don´t have that problem, and our computers are almost exactly the same (Dell 8200, 2.4 pentium 4, Asus Radeon pro 9800) except his CPU is a 2.53.
So what could be causing this, the power supply?

Try to reload your mobodrivers and reinstall dx9 and then the videodrivers, all in that order!
