What next? Nvidia cutting out a PS 3.0 unit and claiming PS 2.0 is a good thing?

You don't understand I take it.
ATI’s card is a true PCI express solution not requiring a bridge chip. NVIDIA’s cards “supposedly” are more like AGP solutions requiring a bridge chip to work in a PCI-X slot. A bridge chips add latency there for slight hinder performance.
NVIDIA realized this that’s why they started the using PCI Express 20x slots on nForce 3 bards to help make up for it. NVDIA make one chip it’s that same GPU for AGP or PCI express because it’s cheaper for them, though the added cost of a bridge chip.
ATI has separate GPU lines from AGP to PCI express, The GPU on their AGP card will
not be the same as their PCI Express cards. This costs more but offer the best performance.
What they said was that they most likely would implement a bridge chip in the future when the AGP market finishes dieing out (early next year). This would make since because it would be retarded to continue to make separate GPU chips when 90% of people are going to be buying PCI express cards. I highly doubt they would bridge their native PCI express cards there is no need to. (Unlike NVIDIA’s non native solution)
BTW: yea NVIDIA implement pixel shadier 3.0 but not for the reason NVIDIA Fans would believe. Some parts of PS 3.0 are faster then 2.0; these are the effects NVIDIA sports, not so much the higher IQ ones, but the higher FPS ones.
There won’t be a power full enough solution on the market to push a “FULL” PS. 30 implantation until R5XX series. But there is talk of a Future R4XX that would support PS 3.0.
The difference in ATI’s PS 2.0 implantation and NVIDIA’s 3.0 is not all the different effect wise. NVIDIA for example in Far Cry is using a mix of say 80% PS 1.1 and 20% PS 3.0. It’s all about FPS and making their cards look good it’s not about fully supporting PS 3.0.
The x800 nor the 6800 have enough power to push full PS 3.0 at any decent FPS. I mean would you love playing a game like doom 3 at like 8 fps? on your $500 video card
