lapping?

So I'm about to order a VGA silencer rev .3 soon for my AIW 9800 Pro, and I haev a couple questions.

The first one is that a few people have said that this cooler requires you to lap the contact portion of the heatsink? What is that and how do I do it?

Also, I've read about people "breaking" thier cards "because of" the VGA silencer, but then other people say it's just cause they tightened it too much... so is there now a consensus? Will I be fine as long as I don't overtighten and as long as I tighten both screws evenly?

Thanks!

System Specs

You don't have to lap that portion but some people prefer to do so because the finished product has a mirror like finish on the contact surface. Yes you will be fine as long as you do not over tighten.
