Games hang using 8x agp smartgart!!!

hello guru's,
my problem like this.
when i play games(c&c general) with Gexcube 9600xt 8x agp in smartgart,always hang and black screen.so i have to restart my pc.
when i reduce to 4x agp n fastwrite on,walla! all games run perfectly.
so how can i playing games in 8x agp mode?
on n i done update to 4.2 ati display n nforce 3.13 n dx9b.

here is my spec :
amd athlon xp 2000+
nfs-7 v2.0
768 mb ddr333(running dual channel)
Gexcube 9600xtg 128mb
40 gigs hardrive
Winfast TV2000xp deluxe
Benq cdwriter

Well you guys can correct me if I am wrong here, but I have heard from quite a few people that ATI video cards do not play well with the nforce chipsets at all...

no, thats not correct. they work fine with nforce 2 motherboards, ive been using this combination for a LONG time.

whats your power supply? are you altering the settings in your bios or in the ATI control panel, because if you are altering the 8x/4x settings in your ATI control panel and they are conflicting with the bios settings you will experience problems. if you can let us know more information please.

i'm using hi-cute 400watt power supply.i think that should good enough.
in bios i use 'auto' setting for agp.coz before this i done enough setting from 8x to 4x and the problem was the same.when using auto setting, at ati control panel i can select which i want to use.
i do some checking in ati website and found this...
