HELP! New Omega Weirdness!
I just installed the brand new Omega's and my screen looks well funny! Many of my Windows icons are "broken" for want of a better word. Also, my cursor has a box around it, made up of 20-or-so horizontal lines.
Strange, huh?
I have an Excalibur Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB. Could this be something to do with the fabled FastWrites now being forced on?
HELP PLEASE!
I took a screenshot but it looks like I can't post it here...

*** UPDATE ***
I just disabled FastWrites and everything is fine now. But I thought you HAD to have them enabled if you're running a 9600?
Does this mean there could be a problem with my card?
I just ran 3DMark03 and scored 3013, broken down thus:
Wings Of Fury = 86.2fps
Battle Of Proxycon = 20.9fps
Troll's Lair = 18.1fps
Mother Nature = 19.7
CPU Score 228
CPU Test 1 = 24.1fps
CPU Test 2 = 4.3fps
Does that sound about right for an Athlon 2100+ with 512MB RAM and a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB?
Thanks in advance...

Like said many times here, fastwrites doent work in some systems, and its bether off. It doesnt improve anything, and it does more harm then good. Theres nothing wrong with your system, just dont use fastwrites. Hope this helps you calm down.
Be good,
mainman

9600 pro's apparently need fastwrites on.i have seen this on many threads here so it is odd that you seems to be better with them off!!.
the scores you have were very similar to mine when i had a 9600pro.

Thanks for the help guys!
I am quite happy leaving FW off - it's just the fact that I keep reading that the 9600 Pro MUST have them enabled in order to function properly that threw me into confusion. I was worried that I wasn't getting the full performance out of my card.
I'll keep the pesky buggers off from now on!

if it works for you then do so at your will.stability is more important than just having 1 or 2 more frames per second.

Stability for the 9600pro is the reason FWs should be enabled. With my system I had FW disabled and had to back off on some effects in certain games (Gunmetal and TRON inparticular) otherwise the system would just lock up.

Isn't it weird then, that if I enable FWs I get strange artifacts all over the screen? I am not overclocking my GFX card, so it makes no sense.
PCs can be a pain in the arse.

It's that kind of visual effect but no where near as severe! It's just some of my desktop icons are distorted and my curser is fooked. Anyway, with FW off I have no such problems.
