Comp freezes on game exit

One out of 5 times when I exit or alt tab from counterstrike (aswell as CoD) my comp will lock up and a loud noise comes through headphones. Once i kinda went back into CS and it was running at like 1 FPS then comp locked up. Any ideas? Could it be overheating? Im using a 9800xt on the new omega drivers ( it happens on catalysts aswell ).
I got a gig of pc400 ram on a 3.0 ghz CPU. Thx for reading

what are your temps and your voltages? what psu are useing how many watts?

Im not really sure, its a dell 8300 any programs i can use to find out?

Check your temps like Neon said. Use AIDA32 to get this information, download it from here: AIDA32 SYS info

The problem with the noise coming from the headphones may be due to the swap file paging - which is causing the game to slow down from an ALT TAB.

How much memory do you have and what speed does it run at? Also check your hdd space, as the page file may be eating all the jiuce from your hard drive.

I have 1 gig of PC-400 ram, my paging file intitial size is 1536mb and maximum is 3072 mb. I grabbed that program, trying to figure it out. BTW before i formated from the DELL format, this didnt happen, but i also did not have powerstrip, could powerstrip possibly be causing this problem?

The temps can be found using the the "computer icon" on the left when you double click it, it opens up the tree of other options , you should see the "sensor" tab, when this is clicked it will display your temps on the right hand window.

I would uninstall Powerstrip and use the omega drivers instaed to optimise your graphic card. Stay away from these apps mate and use Omega - he has allt he tweaks in his drivers and they are very reputable too.

i uninstalled powerstrip and all is good so far, we'll see what happens..

btw when i hit sensor nothin shows up, and no processes are happening
jus a blank screen on rite hand side

I thought problem went away because I alt tabed succesful like 10-15 times, but just now i ran that AIDA32 program and onloading comp locked up and noise came through speakers, any ideas?

Hmm if this is only happening while alt-tabing out of games, then stop alt-tabing....most games do not support alt-tabing.

it happened when i turned that prog on, and not jus alt tabing, exiting aswell... plus alt tabing is normal in the hl engine
