Can't get Hercules 9800 PRO to do 8X

Hi,

For some reason my Hercules 9800PRO doesn't appear to be running in 8X mode.

I'm using the latest omega drivers and the SMARTGART is showing the card running at 4X. When I move the slider to 8X and reboot it won't stay.

My motherboard, SOYO KT400 Dragon Ultra, will do 8X and I believe it is set for it in the BIOS. The only BIOS setting for the 8X is "DBI Output for AGP Trans" which is set to enable. This option appears when an 8X video card is detected.

Is there something I'm missing or not doing?

Do you have the latest agp drivers?

the smartgart slider only shows you what you are running at.

as maiman says install the latest chipset drivers for the board.

to select 8x it's in your bios but should automatically select 8x upon installation of your card.could be worth seeing if your bios is up to date also.

Most of the times this types of AGP display issues are solved with a bios update and with a AGP driver update. Depending on the chipset of you board, meaning intel, via or sis, you can update all relative mobo drivers using the makers site.

I have found out also that if you install the Nvidia drivers for a board that is not on the support list you will run into problems as well. I have an MSI board and I download the newest nvidia driver only to have my 9800 pro running in like 4x, checked the bios and that was all set correctly. Well I lived with it for a little bit, this weekend I decided to format and reload my system, and I made the choice to go with the drivers from MSI's site. Well I checked and now my card was running in 8X. I did a little test, I backed up my drive and installed the Nvidia drivers and rebooted, and wouldnt you know it, down to 4X. Hope this helps.

if the board is not on the list they will not install,but is possible to extract the inf from an older driver edit then place in the same folder of the drivers of the ones you would want to use then install.

i know this may sound stupid.i hope the nvidia drivers were for another system.

Well the nvidia drivers were for the Nforce2 stuff, ie. NIC, NB, Sound and all that other fun stuff.

Not to argue here, it was my stupid fault for not reading fully on Nvidia's site, but they have a link for motherboard listing that is supported and the MSI is on there but the name of the page is for solutions, not what they labeled it as on the home page. Meaning go here for drivers from these guys.

Not sure if that made any sense. Either way, I was just putting in my .02.

i see what your saying now. just looked like nvidia vga drivers, silly me!!!!! i forgot about the nvidia chipset drivers.
