Graphic Problems with new drivers
Hi,
i've got some really strange driver problems with the new drivers. With the "standart" ATI Drivers, which were installed by Toshiba (my Notebook is a Toshiba Tecra S1), the drivers did "well", but because NFS: Underground always crashed WinXP on exiting, i decided to install some new drivers. I found the Omega drivers and I installed them. They seemed to be much faster, but the caused graphic problems in all my games. My next try was to download the new catalyst 3.10 drivers from ATI and "patch" them with the dhmodtool 1.6. This would also not wor, because setup exited with "No Video Driver found". However, I succeded in installing the new catalyst drivers with Windows ONLY (no ati setup, ...) and after I started NFS Underground, the game seemed to be slower again (that wouldn't matter, if the game would work) and the same graphic problems occured. In some NFS Forums people said it would help to increase Texture Details in WinXP or try to set MipMapping to maximum, but all these things didn't help! BTW I have the same problems in other games (alway in 3D Scenes, ...) Is this a known bug and is there a solution? Niko

Hello there,
I too have the Toshiba Tecra S1 and experience the same problems with the modified drivers. I've tried the latest catalyst drivers, and dhmodtool 1.6. They seem to install fine, but there are graphic problems with them. The problems consist of weird things on the screen, and what look like odd fireworks coming out of objects. They’re hard to describe, but anyone who remembers original Nintendo will have a good idea on what they look like. Remember when the cards were dusty or not seated properly-the graphic corruption. I've been trying to get NFS: Underground working myself. 3DMark crashes, and various other games do not work, or at least not properly. I would really appreciate feedback from Tecra S1 owners on what graphic drivers they’re using, and their performance with games. I would assume Toshiba modified the ATI Mobile Radeon 9000 chipset, which is why the reference drivers do not work properly. Perhaps we might have some luck in figuring out if that’s true, and if so how can we get updated drivers so that games will work. I don’t think I’ll buy another laptop again… Software companies refuse to support old drivers. Laptop companies refuse to release new drivers. We’re screwed. |

wow.... sorta sounds like overheating..... odd.... wonder if the drivers are setup to run the hardware at a certain speed... and perhaps Toshiba actually set the core clocks lower to reduce heat?.... Possibility..... other then the graphical corruption... it runs....completely ok?

No, it crashes too.
Its not heat related... The corruption starts imediately. It seems disabling fast writes helped a bunch. But I'm still noticing corruption. (the rear view mirror in NFS: Underground) |

Other games experience the same problem
Hi,
i think i'll write to toshiba, maybe they don't know about tis problem! The real problem is that these problems not only occure in NFS: Underground. I had these problems even in "Anstoss 4 - Edition 03/04" which graphics seem to be very "old" and I'm sure that they don't even need a Voodoo3, so this can't be overhead related, ... I also tried the mobil drivers from asus, which are much never than the toshina ones (November ), but there are these weired graphic errors too, ....Maybe any other with a Tecra S1 here? Niko
