For patje

patje,

Does your mod tool work by changing ASIC or PnP IDs?

If so, have you considered using it to allow the Dell version of the MCE drivers for AIW cards to install on more than the 9000 series?

Many have reported success on 9000, ATI MMC Manager posted that the ATI future release (if there is one) supports 9200/9600/9800.

Another ATI employee stated that any R200 or better with DDR memory had enough pipelines and speed to run Encode on MCE.

This would suggest that the 8500 family and 9700 ought to work too.

Can you assist?

hmmm, not thats what I call a question

first, yes the tool works with pnp id's not ASIC.
I'm not sure what the dell MCE driver is, i presume it is the dell version of the all-in-wonder driver?
if it's only an inf or ini file that needs to be modded, i'll mod it

if you have msn send me pm and i'll add you to my list, so we can discuss this more in detail, otherwise use this thread, i'll be watching it closely.

to the rescue and beyond!

patje,

The app I am refering to is the one that allows AIW users to run XP-Media Center Edition (MCE)

This includes a software application called "Encode" which tricks MCE into believing there is a hardware MPEG encoder in the system as per the Microsoft requirement. Encode however does this in real-time with software. ATI says the requirement is a Hyperthreading CPU 2.4ghz or faster.

And an OEM-specific version of the WDM driver.

The following applies to the hacked Dell drivers I was sent:

Encode itself seems to install fine on any platform, including Athalons and is installed with .msi which I looked at with Orca MSI Table Editor, and could see no stumbling blocks. I assume it works.

The WDM seems to be a problem for other than the specified ASICs 9200,9600,9800, as it "should" install, but does not always do so, or if it does, MCE still reports an error of missing or corrupt drivers. The "crossbar" in specific seems to be the critical element where problems arise.

Note that after Radeon driver and WDM, you cannot install the rest of MMC or ATI DVD, you need to use WinDVD for decoding.

I hope you are willing to tackle the modifications to allow install on all AIWs R200 and better.

Please check your PM on here as I have some added info for you.
