9800xt Omg

I just upgraded from my old 8500 128mb to a 9800XT and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This card is amazing.

I know this is kind of a useless post, but I was just so damn blown away I had to post.

Note to Mod: Delete if need be.

Thumbs Up!

I have learned from experience that upgrading is more fun when you wait a while until you can afford to take a big step upwards. And 8500 to 9800XT is quite a good one.

Well afford is a very subjective word. I worked a butt load of OT to be able to pay for this baby, but in the end I think the trade off was well worth it

I got the same feeling when I upgraded to the 9700pro from even my very fast ti4200. The only problem was remembering to turn up all the eye candy. 4xAA & 16xAF is a beautiful thing.

Since you brought up AA and AF let me ask a question. Should I set them the same in OGL and 3D or what? I have always had them off or App. Preference. I have Never experimented with them and am not really sure.

Set them to the Max, if you experience slowdown in certain games then decrease, IMO.

Yeah, definately max them out- 6xAA is sometimes overkill at higher resolutions- but 4xAA looks great even at 1024 x 768 and is very fast.

16xAF looks great and doesn't slow down the game too much at all.

The different Dx and OGL controls are for the different games- Open GL games (Call of Duty) will follow the OGL tab and the same for DX games (max Payne). Find out what type your game is and adjust that control panel.

Pay attention to differences in how the game looks before and after the adjustments, AA is for the edges, AF if for the textures. (basically)

haha- you're gonna love it man. That game still looks quite amazing when the settings are cranked. Make sure to crank up the in-game settings too- RTCW is an OGL game.

Well, my amazement continues. All settings maxed and I have not taken any FPS hit and things are just sooooooooo purdy . I have to say that, I think ,this was the best investment I have ever made in a computer component.

Well, actually I had a spare Nvidia 16mb VANTA for a couple weeks when waiting for my refund on a "dead" RMA card, so I could buy my 9700pro- So in reality I went from a Nvidia Vanta to a 9700pro- Quite a leap.
