9700 Pro Artifacts problem

hey wassup,

I am a noob to all this stuff. But I am having a major problem build by ati 9700 pro. Ok heres the problem, right when I turn on my computer, there are pink artifacts on the boot screen. And then throughout the whole time windows in booting up, there are green artifacts all over like a checkerboard. At first, only half the screen has artifacts when the screen resolution is at 800x600, but once I bump it up to 1024x768, the artifacts are now in columns going down my screen. When I open any kind of window and then drag it across the screen, the window starts turning yellow and leaves a yellow trail. To my knowledge the card hasnt been overclocked. One person suggested I underclock my card and see if that works, so I did and reduced the mem first by 5 mhz. This didnt do a thing until the memory got so low that the artifacts were too crazy and I couldnt even read anything on the screen. Then I tried messing around with the core, but that didnt do anything also. I am not sure what to do now, I heard volt modding might help. I was reading around the forums and someone suggested taking the cooler off and cleaning it up and putting some thermal paste there because overheating might be the problem. Has anyone ever had this problem? Or is my card dying? Any info would be great. Thanks

James

I would reckon the card is on its last legs - especially if your getting artifacts on the BIOS POST screen. Heat wont really be a problem at that point so cleaning the HSF up probably wont make a difference.

I hope someone else here can come up with something better for you.

BTW: Welcome to Driver Heaven!

thanks for the welcomes!

This is a build by ati card. How does the return process work for the company? Will I have to pay that $75 fee that they are talking about on the website? thanks everyone.
