give this a try.

Always create a system restore point first.

1) Download driver cleaner http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/ then install.

2) Open driver cleaner then find the option "cab cleaner" then use. This removes the old 27.42 drivers from sp1. (if ati cards skip to option 3)

3) Remove control panel first don’t reboot, then drivers from add/remove option.

4) when asked to restart do so but when restart hold f8 then select "safe mode" from options given.

5) When in safe mode open driver cleaner for a second time then select "NVIDIA” then press clean. This removes any INF files windows leaves behind.

6) When complete reboot to normal, if cab cleaner is successful you should get the add hardware window instead of installing above drivers (27.42).

7) Cancel add driver window unless it’s an unzipped & locate file type driver. If its .exe type goes to #8

7a) disable any anti virus software. (Only do so when offline)

8) Locate & install NVIDIA or ati drivers.

Reboot and things should be fine.

Ps after option 5 you might be worth reinstalling dx9.0b and the latest chipset drivers for your mobo.

i get 17k on 3d2k1.im sure your probably aware of this but what psu do you have?

John, after I did the above steps u mentioned, I still get the same result, which is pretty weird. I am lost now
9700 none pro got 13000ish on this computer. But now I only get 12450 or so with 9800 pro. Maybe I should return His Excalibur 9800 pro and get a Sapphire instead

Anyone know anyway to solve this?

do you do the benchies with vsync on?

do you set 3d/opengl to performance?

the clock speeds should be in the region of 380/340(ddr).have you got rad clocker installed?

get it from here:http://hem.bredband.net/b128407/RadClocker1800.msi direct save file.

then install then take reading from the control panel.

just to add don't be to hasty in exchanging your card just yet there will be help for you.

vsync? where do I turn it on and off? and it's best on or off?

I've got omega driver with rad clocker installed and the clock speed is within the range.
And I didn't change the performance when I did the test, it was set to normal.. I will test again with both set to best performance.

in the control panel itself.there is a slider for vsync in both opengl and d3d.

with vsync enabled it will cap the framerates to your screen refresh.85hz will cap at 85 frames per second.

I had a friend whose 9800 Pro would get like 10-20 FPS in UT2k3 if he played for too long because of overheating. Consider sticking some more fans in your case if you haven't already. It's a suggestion anyway.

what's your Power Supplies OUTPUT... as the radeon 9800pro will draw a fair bit from the PSU..... for your system... minimum spec wattage would be 350...... i would suggest 400 though....
