pro and non-pro are different.
In the case of the pro, the core is similar to the 9700 except the memory bandwidth is 128bit.
And if its a Built by ATI product, its pcb layout is that the chip is in the middle and 4 memory chips are laid out in a line. (i think all 9500pro are created like this)
In the case of the non pro, the core is similar to the 9700 also, excpet the memory bandwidth is 128bit and 4 of the pixel pipelines has been disabled. the PCB layout is usually set the same as a 9700/pro with the 4 memory chips in an 'L' configuration (2 on top, 2 beside). This is the one they are talking about, beacuse the card is practically a 9700 with some artificial disabling of features. The softmod re-enables these and thats how u get the theoretical '9700'.
You cant do it with the 9500pro cuz the layout is different.
