Acoording to german Onlinekosten.de, the R300
a) will be launched at July 17 (very hard to believe) and b) like the Voodoo 5 it will need a separate power connection (!!) Is it me or are these boys smocking too much dope during the day?? http://www.onlinekosten.de/news/artikel.php3?id=9346 |

Well, an image I saw that was supposed to be of the R300 (though I am skeptical) did show a floppy power connector. As for the July release date, I think that's some very wishful thinking..

Ok folks, even one of my favourite german hardware-news-sites posted the same stuff as above.
The info about the separate power connection comes from the Inquirer: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=4299 I guess the thing about the release date July 17 is related to the teaser on ATI's site. Why should they do such a promotion for that little increase of performance (R250)? Ok, ok every leader of an own product category should be promoted as such, but the Teaser is actually promising more than the R250 can deliver, so everyone thinks -> must be for R300 introduction! Perhaps Ati thought: "Let's don't work that out with the power consumption, we release it in front of th NV30 and give them a separate power connection!"

I don't see what's so bad about the need of a floppy contector. It sure needs one since it carry's 100million transistors or somthing.
I assume it will be anounced on the 17th. What's the use of bringing out a DX9 card if you haven't got DX9 to install :P |

Why would anyone care about DX9 beta being shipped with the card when no games support any of its features?
ATI just needs to get that thing out so they can steal Nvidia's thunder (since Matrox obviously missed the punch).
