The R300 may be delayed because DirectX is due in October instead of Septmeber. Read
this article about R300, directX 9 and 3d2k3, interesting??!

I've started to test with a brand new WinXP. Every public Parhelia test was based on games - I prefer 3dsmax v4.2, v5, Maya v4.5, PSP 7.0 AND some games especially in 3 monitors mode (so called Surround Gaming).
Coloreal is great! Easy to config, etc!
Matrox Reef techdemo is really very impressive! Cool!
2D and desktop IQ is perfect.
Matrox PowerDesk-HF loading a bit long (10-15sec) sometimes but after I figured out this kinda Matrox-thinking - it's very useful!

After I installed the drivers and everything else from the CD (install went fine maybe a bit long for me) I installed a fresh 3dsmax v4.2 + SPack = 4.25 (no Intel-optim. DLLs, of course ). Run. I picked the OpenGL drivers, came up, I've tried to strech the window to my 2nd monitor (not maximizing!) and 3dsmax immediately closed! Uhhh, restart, Max came up on streched size, streching again - again closed! Restart, driver change to D3D, close, restart - everything is ok.
3dsmax 5: the chosen is D3D with DX8.1 settings (everything on max.) - working fine.

At this point I've decided I will try the latest driver 'cause of this weird OpenGL problem. Download, old driver uninstall, reboot, (Off the records: while Parhelia drivers wasn't installed, the GUI came up only on 2/3 of the righ side of my P110... ) new driver install, reboot.

3dsmax working fine with OpenGL, streching, everything.
I've started to install Maya, when almost finished I got a f***ing BSOD: MTXPARHD.DLL is flew off...
Reboot, Maya installer started, found the unfinished shit but couldn't uninstall (freezed), couldn't install 'cause ofthe unfinished version. I've started clean out the registry manually - after 15-20 minutes the keyboard and mouse freezed, I had no working input only a blinking cursor.
Reboot, I gave up Maya-story, 15-20 minutes later same shit: everything freezed.
4x times in a row same thing!

I've decided to go with my stable working, daily config (different SCSI disk, based on my 128MB 8500 Retail) - I disconnected the newly installed disk, reconnected the normal disk.
WinXP Pro coming up (goofy 2/3rd area of my monitor), CD-driver installed, restart, 2 monitors were configured - this is where I am right now.

So, I didn't run serious test yet ' cause I had no time to do it - I think on the weekend I will do it.
Yeah, I got a 3rd 21" monitor, an old Radius Intellicoolor. Good for testing...

So, I will post the rest on Sunday - stay tuned!

BTW, did you see these, guys?

R300:

Look at this connector - external power?

RV250:

Dunno, is this passive cooling could be enough for a faster chip (I mean than R200)?

Default Post Memory: 2.4?

Seems to me 224 - means 2.4ns...

Has to be working on 400MHz minimum!

There's a lot of misinformation going around, so I'd like to get a few things straight.

1. The latest drivers from Sapphire indicate that the RV250 will be dubbed the Radeon 9000. Does this mean the R300 will be the Radeon 10000, or will it be named differently?
2. Since the R300 is going to be a DirectX 9 card, is ATI waiting on DirectX 9 to release it?
3. If ATI releases the card before DirectX 9, will it be adversely affected?
4. The latest batch of pics show a floppy power connector on the card. Has this been confirmed?
5. It's been posted that ATI will release the R300 on July 17th. Although this seems highly doubtful, is it possible/plausible that the RV250 will be released on this date?

Information from several sources indicate that the first R300 will be named a radeon 9700. (9 for directX 9 and 700 for the memory speed) The radeon 8500 is a DirectX8 card with 500 mhz (250 Mhz ddr) memory speed (Ati raised memory and core speed to 275 ddr memory and 275 Mhz core speed after the card was announced.) The radeon 9700 card is expected to hit the shelves end of August or early September and is likely to be shipped with a beta DirectX 9. DirectX 9 is will only be finished end of October, Ati also shipped the first Radeon 8500 with a beta directX8.1 This Radeon is expected to be more 20% faster than current Geforce ti4600. Later Ati will announce a second R300, this R300 will be using the 0.13 Micronn process and will have higher core and mem speeds than the first R300. This card will be the competitor of Nvidia's Nv30. The second r300 may be a Radeon 10000, however that sounds like if it is a DirectX 10 card, so it's likely Ati will change the name.

The first R300 will have to compete against the new Nvidia VN 31 which will be the budget version of the NV 30 but will be based on a similar architecture. Th Rv250 is expected to be officially announced in the coming weeks and will be available before the R300. I don't think Ati will name the Rv250 a Radeon 9000, but we will know when the card is officially announced!

There are more rumour about the second power connector (floppy power ) but it isn't confirmed as yet. The new Agp 8 slots should be able to deliver suffecient power to the R300. Older boards may need an extra power connector to supply the R300 with more power.

Default Post Slow RV250

Did you see this?

"Radeon 9000 Benchmarks!!

Just got off a friend from Hong Kong, A Weekly Machine PC Weekly has posted some benchmarks on the new Radeon 9000 ( aka RV250 ). The Card is a Grandmars Radeon 9000 Pro and it is engineering sample. I am thinking that some webmaster may have this in hand for testing as well but I decided to post this for those who are anxious to see it.

As his scanner is not working so no picture will be post, but I am sure other readers from HK could verify the truth of this benchmark.

Here is some Basic info on RV250

Manufacturing Process: 0.15 - micro
4 Rendering Pipeline
Memory Bandwidth 9.6GB/sec with 600+ ( DDR ) MHZ
Core Speed 300MHz +
Pixel Shader 1.4
Vertex Shader 1.1
HydraVision
Integrated 2 RAMDAC ( 165MHz TMDS Transmitter and a Digital RGB Port )
Pin Compatible with Radeon 7500
AGP 4X

Since Radeon 9000 is Pin Compatible with Radeon 7500 which mean manufacture could easily upgrade their existing production line to Radeon 9000. And by doing that could also lower the cost of production.

The design of Radeon 9000¡¦s PCB is slightly different from the Radeon 8500, since Radeon 9000 is a integrated solution design, which means that there is less component on the board,
Such as the Rage Theater and the secondary external RAMDAC. By design Radeon 9000 is cheaper to make than the Radeon 8500 which makes it more attractive to customers.

On the current engineering sample it is running at a 290 MHz (Core&Mem)
The Chip is version A12 and the size is the same as RV200

Benchmark

3D Mark 2001 SE 330
RV200 RV250 MX460 8500LE
1024 x 768 5549 7548 5931 8475
1280 x 1024 4315 5987 4591 6915
1600 x 1200 3286 4652 3506 5376
Aquamark
1024 x 768 25.2 41.6 25.2 46.8
1280 x 1024 20.8 29.1 19.8 36.9
1600 x 1200 15.5 21.1 14.6 26.9
Quake 3
1024 x 768 116.4 160.7 163.8 183.1
1280 x 1024 73.7 105.6 115 139.9
1600 x 1200 52.7 73.4 81.3 92
Jedi Knight II
1024 x 768 87.9 92.2 92.6 90.9
1280 x 1024 65.7 86.9 80.5 91.3
1600 x 1200 46.8 66.2 60.6 82.2

Tested with:
Athlon 1800+
256 DDR 266
WinXP
Driver 7.74

I personally think the benchmark is a bit doggy since RV250 is very simliar to R200 than why is the benchmark so different??

But please bear this in mind this is a enginerring sample with very early driver......"

Sad if it's true...
