sapphire 9600pro
need a little feedback from some of you.
i have just blown my gfti4600 which i had replaced once due to a fault in it's bios (nvidia in ati forum i know youre wondering).
i have allready decided to make the switch to ati to a sapphire 9600pro 128mb @400/600 fanless.comes with sapphire heatpipe.
sounds impresive from what i have seen in other forums in dh itself.
only 2 things i want to see is how many of you think i have made the wright choice (i hope so)
and secondly i might be after a updated psu due to it being a jeantech 300w psu can some of you provide me with a link to a recomended psu say something like atleast 350w but not too noisy psu.
thanx 9600pro

If you have made the order you wont be dissapointed. Its a v nice card...if you have not ordered quite yet and the only reason your getting the silent version is "because its cool looking" then you might want to track down a Sapphire 9600pro "fireblade" special edition...basically its got faster RAM than the normal 9600pro's.... i.e overclocks higher...
If you can wait a few days you'll see how it compares in our next review

OK, try here :

As for changing NV to ATI, most would say you need to format (and i guess i would agree) but until you can be bothered to do that just use drivercleaner

Just to reassure you, go with everything Veridian has said so far. It is on the money. I went straight from a ATI 7500 to a 9700 Pro and had no problems. I only used Drivercleaner. Although after seeing what problems can happan and sometimes do I would recommend a fresh install. Even more for the reason you are going from Nvidia to ATI.

My buddy is kinda crazy. He went from a Rage Pro to 9700 Pro . . . and only installed Catalyst 3.6 over the old drivers and there were no problems, at least in the short time I was there.
This guy reformats like twice a month tho . . . .

You've almost the same system and drivers as me.
Did you experienced some problems with special games? I reinstalled my complete computer, installed the newest drivers and updated my games (c&c generals and simcity4). Both games lock after several seconds. I've no idea how to solve this problem, now I'm searching for users who have similar graphic cards.
May be, you can help me.
I would be pleased!

unfortunatly it is partly of two reasons i can't help at the moment.
a)im just in the middle of a complete system restore a few problems going from nvidia to ati.
b)haven't got c&c generals & simcity 4 not my type of games.
only just got to the point of reinstalled xp.dx9.0b and ati cats 3.6,antiviaras & internet access at this time no games installed.
all due to only receiving the card today(6 aug) sorry can't help at the moment NMKronos.
in my opinion you might be better asking vampyromaniac or veridion3 they are amongst the most usefull.

HI,
I've been using a few 9600 series cards recently and had no problems with CNC:G, seems to play fine with 3.6 and 9.0b (WinXP sp1). I've not played Sim City 4 for a while so i'll install that tonight and see how it plays.

That's confusing me.
I can solve this problem if I reduce the hardware acceleration. But then I have a flickering mouse cursor. May it be a defect hardware? Or conflicts between other devices (i have no irq conflicts!) Or do I have a too low power supply (250W - but other games and benchmarks run well, therefore i don't believe this)
Addition: My mainboard (MSI KT3 Ultra 2) doesn't support 8x AGP, thus I must use 4x although the videocard supports 8x.

yes a under powered psu can cause problems like that.like running a car with only half the spark points in place you loose power.
is your 9600pro new?,what g/card were you using before.you might of hit the nail on the head yourself about the psu at 250w,i'm going to be replacing mine soon so i am sure the specs said min psu @ 300w so if somebody else might be able to confirm this, bear in my opinion it could be worth upgrading to a min 300w psu by what i hve been recomended by this forum made by antec true power or enarmax psu's.
bear in mind now the amount of stuff in pc's & what you might have in yours could be overloading the psu.
hdd, disk drives, cpu, mobo any case fans etc all take up juice from the psu which is why i'm going upto a min of 350w by either of the two i have mentioned.

9600pro
i have now been testing my newbie 9600pro by sapphire and i have only had this card now fo 24 hours and i must say OH MY GOD THIS CARD IS THE BEEZ NEEZ when it now comes to light.
i have allways been as you say nvidiot!.
the 9600pro i have now is the smoothest card to date i have either had or tried.
i have used from a tnt 32mb,gf2ti,gf4mx440,gfti420064mb,ti4200128mb,ti460 0128mb. they are previous cards i owend.
highest benchmark using 3dmark was 9000 or so.that were for ti4600.
have tried gfx5600 @325/500 by aopen 256mg which scored only 7800 max poor result before you say so.
now for the very first time i have switched to ati my 9600pro @ 400/600 scores 11500 and i am very impressed by the card
and i just want to say thanx to the advice i had in choosing this card
i am now a ati maniac.
now i have gone from nvidia to ati at this moment in time i am not going back to nvidia.
ati is now my fav card to date.
