Vengeance is on a distinguished road

Getting this from newegg! safest install?

I have a broken fan blade on my 9700 Pro, It still works fine. But a buddy of mine from work ordered me this VGA fan from newegg.com

Iceberq

So I've never taken the fan off of my video card, How hard is it to do? I dont want to hose my card

It's is fairly easy to take off. There are two push-pins holding the cooler on, use needle nose pliers to take them off. Push the end of eash pin in and push down so that the pin goes back through the hole. Be very, very, very careful when doing this 'cuase if you slip, that's it. After it's off you'll have to clean the thermal goo completely off and replace it with some other thermal compound, unless you wanna re-use the goo.

Well its all done now But the only thing is I didnt remove the shim that wolf is now telling about
I'm a weee bit worried about it.


And Nuke209 I did go for the Iceberq 4, That is one sweet VGA cooler.

Man, I would be afraid to turn the thing on if you didn't remove the shim- usually there is a huge gap between the shim height and the gpu surface height. That's why they use that big thick sticky yellow pad thing. Even if you do get enough paste on there, it will be way to thick to do anything but insulate the heat inside the GPU.

Did you take a straight edge and lay it across the shim - in line w/ the gpu to see if there was a big gap? Man, I hope your card doesn't fry. You have very good reason to be worried.

Well I did all of this on saturday And since then I have overclocked it to 350/340 and ran 3DMark2K1 and 2K3 plus I have played a lot of games. And so far so good Still I'm a little worried
