[9700pro] Help! Performance issues with ut2003!

Hey guys, sorry to make another thead again, but I finally bought a new card, a built by ati 9700pro

It seems there are some issues however, i have a very small monitor, so the highest res i can run at is 1024x768. From reading reviews, i figured this would be no problem for my card! I initially installed the 3.6 based Omega drivers, and I got some nice fps, but during fights, it would often drop from 100 + all the way down to 30 - 40. It is quite irritating. I then thought maybe i should try a format. So i formatted last night, fresh install of windows, and ut2003, and SLIGHTLY better, but still very severe drops during fights. It's really quite upsetting because i figured this card would just power through this game, but it appears not . As you can see from my specs, there is NO apparent reason as to why this would happen!)

P4 3.06 533 fsb
1gb DDR PC 2700
Ati radeon 9700 pro (default clock speeds).

I'm just wondering if you very knowledgable people can suggest anything to improve performance? Ive tried sliding everything in the Direct3d panel in control panel to the left, 'performance' instead of 'quality' and it barely helped at all. Ive made sure AA and AF are off, and ive also tried with Vsync on and off.

Is this normal for this card / my specs? It just seems extremely low. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much everyone.

ra.

You have a nice computer and that shouldn't be happening. Have you tried the Omega drivers?

Yup, i initially started off before i formatted with the Omega drivers using the 9700 > 9800 hack. But it still dropped during fights. Its not so much the actual fps that is bothering me, its the SUDDEN, and severe drop that messes me up, going from extremely smooth, to extremely choppy is so irritating, and i just dont feel it should be happening

How about smartgart? What AGP mode do you have the card in and do you have fast writes on? Try turning fast writes off, it has been know to fix some problems.

Its running in AGP 4x (my mobo only supports 4x), aperture size is 128. I tried turning fastwrites off, but when i restart my computer to apply the changes, they are back on again!

My scores are: 3D Mark 2001 SE (9700pro) - 13939
3D Mark 2003 (9700pro) - 4588

I couldnt see anything in the bios for fastwrites, but i tried again and they are off now. I also seemed to have found the problem, but I dont get why i should have to do this. I simply turned world detail down to normal instead of highest.....I'm sort of out of ideas
