9800Pro and PSUs
Im wondering if my 9800 Pro problem is directly linked with my power supply unit
![]() When I fire up any game, in this case either MOH:AA or SPEARHEAD, I get a sort of shimmering effect on close inspection with the graphics on screen. I dont see any shimmering while working within windows or while surfing the net. Im just wondering then, could it be that the card is not getting enough power and is therefore not functioning correctly ![]() Any help much appreciated. PS: The card is running default with no 'oc'ing. My PSU is 300w. ![]() nme |

2 possibilites to fix it.
1. try turning on AA 2. try the omega drivers |

Why would turning on AA fix that problem? isnt 300w low for a 9800 pro?

AA can fix shimmering of individual pixels, and he said it was only on close inspection so I would assume its just a few pixels.

ok, I wondered. I just thought 300w was too low for a 9800 pro to work correctly.

Heck,
300 Watt PSU is too low for a 9700 Pro in my opinion...I'd suggest you upgrade if anything for future's sake. |

You can turn off the Shimmering effect
by downloading Rage3D Tweak (version 3.8c) and turning the option off.

I run my 9800 np on 300 watt PSU and have had no crashes completely stable.

The RADEON is very fussy about sharing power. A 400w good make PSU should do the trick too. Some 350w PSUs are really substandard despite their specs. The real test for a PSU is under load conditions. And 300w is deffo too low even if it's a good unit.

Those 550w PSUs could handle servers with multiple CPUS ! check your voltages to the rails and im sure you will see they are all fine. my general point to anyone reading this is, dont always go by the outright figure, spend more on a top quality PSU with high quality components instead of going for a low cost unbranded 550watt. Ive seen a sparkle 400w power a 9800 pro overclocked with a barton 3000+ @ 3600+, with 3 hard drives, 3 optical drives, 9 case fans with reference readings to the rails ! |
