ati_omega_xp2k_48442-install problems
I may have been given incorrect info about installing these drivers. I mentiond that I uninstalled everything ATI and asked if I install the Omega drivers will I need to install anything ATI? I was advised Omega will incluse everything. I am guessing that is incorrect as I am having issues. Even though I select the ATI tray tools to be installed they are not installing therefore I cannot adjust anything as suggested with install isues. Checked my mobo for anything out of date, updated an audio driver but all else seems to be up to date. I am obviously no software/hardware expert but something is amiss. I have attached a dxdiag report.
If anyone has the patience, would you be so kind to mention what I need to do to correctly install these drivers to work? Do I need to uninstall anything and start over? What else needs to be installed, i.e. VGA driver of some sort? Thanks for any help. |

What video card are you using? The Omega's are pretty old, and it's possible that you card isn't supported in them.

Re: ati_omega_xp2k_48442-install problems
Sorry, thought the card model would be in the dxdiag. ASUS EAH 4830, the info I read on the Omega site was that every ATI card should work with his newest release plus the guy that recommended I think has a even newer and better card and they work for him.

Why not try the original drivers from ati 9.10 they might work better, is there any reason why you want to use the Omega drivers in particular ?

Re: ati_omega_xp2k_48442-install problems
yes, I am wanting to use them because the ATI drivers I have been using are showing graphical errors in EVE and one of the users in EVE suggested them. I know it is more than myself in EVE with ATI driver issues too. Some images are just blocks of color and I also get an error that says VPU recovery. So I tried an older driver straight from ASUS, it eliminated the VPU recovery error but the grphical errors still exist.
Mooo Any suggestions on maybe an alternative? Heh, another player in EVE said ATI plain sux but that doesn't really help! I am using 9.10, it is the problem. Last edited by c0796; Nov 2, 2009 at 01:25 AM. |

The guy that said that "ATI just plain sucks" is just some idiot nVidia fanboi who is too stupid to listen to. If you would have had an nVidia card having the same problems, there would be some idiot ATI fanboi claiming that nVidia just sucks. Ignore any fool that makes a flatout statement like that.
Your card is too new to be supported by the Omegas. First, install the 9.10 drivers from ATI. If that doesn't cure the problems you can try: 1. Open the 3D settings in CCC. 2. Go to the "Catalyst A.I" section. It has two settings, Standard & Advances. I'm pretty sure that the default is ADVANCED, butit doesn't matter. Change it to the other one. 3. If that doesn't help, try ticking the box for "Disable Catalyst A.I". I know that IL2 1946 ( a really old OGL game) sometimes has issues with ATI cards, and one of those 'fixes' seems to cure it for most people. If that doean't help, it could just be that the game you are playing poorly coded. There are games out there that are like that.

Re: ati_omega_xp2k_48442-install problems
Thanks Buzzard, will do, funny remark! I told him my previous card was an Nvidia and that it not only had driver issues but it also over heated easily...evga 8600gt. So I think this Asus card is better quality, drivers can hopefully be resolved overheating though is a real problem, 3 fans to keep airflow and card cool should help, it didn't in that cards case!
Tried those suggestions but no changes. As long as I don't get the vpu recovery error anymore that's fine. I don't know anything about coding but I doubt the game is the issue, there are others who have similar cards without this issue so I have to wonder if it is the drivers or something unique to a certain few models of cards, I don't know enough to really offer more info for troubleshooting but I do appreciate the replies and suggestions, thanks a million.
