Painkiller, Oblivion Problems
Ok, this totally random problem occurred while I was playing through the Painkiller expansion pack. My VeohTV alerted me about an update and brought me to the desktop, interupting painkiller. I ignored the update and resumed playing painkiller, but about 5 minutes later it gave me the error report window and closed. Now I can't load any of my saved games on Painkiller and Oblivion won't even start w/o giving me the error report. My graphics card is a Sapphire X850XT running Omega's latest drivers. I've tried reinstalling my display drivers, rebooting, and reinstalling the patch I had for Oblivion. I can't reinstall Oblivion, as I no longer have the discs, I've had to use a startup hack so it doesnt require the dvd to play it. Any help is much appreciated.

weird error indeed. have you tried reinstalling the games but making a backup of the saved games beforehand (so they don't get accidentally erased on the deinstallation/reinstallation) to test if the games have corrupted instead of the saved files?
Edit: just read you no longer have the disc for oblivion.......

What I can't understand is why both painkiller and oblivion are messed up, guild wars is a 3d game and is about as much strain on my system as painkiller, but it works fine. All I can think of is that there is a file shared by painkiller and oblivion that is corrupted, if anybody would have any idea on what that file would be I may be able to just download a replacement for it. Oblivion and Painkiller wouldnt happen to both use the Havok physics engine would they?
Edit: I see that both do use the havok engine, so I figured there was a small ray of hope in repairing any damage by just reinstalling painkiller since oblivion hadn't even been running at the time this occured and a file that both may have shared was corrupt. However, after reinstalling painkiller, oblivion is still crashing as soon as i start it, but painkiller works fine again. I'm completely stumped, any ideas on what I can do to fix this or at least what the problem may be is greatly appreciated.

Well, while I am still curious as to how one program managed to corrupt another that wasn't even running, I have managed to get a hold of the oblivion dvd and have reinstalled it without any issues, though I do seem to have suffered some performance loss lately, that may be due to a dieing gfx card.
