Asus Radeon EAH3870X2
Hi!
I got a problem with CoD4 and Asus Radeon EAH3870X2.
I get like 60fps with the card and it drops down too 30ish alot of times.
I had a Asus Radeon 1950XTX 512mb where I got like 90fps stable, maybe it dropped down to 60ish sometimes, but never all the way down too 30ish..
Anyone else experienced this with a Asus Radeon EAH3870X2 ?
I haven't tested any other games yet since I got the card yesterday.
I have also installed the latest catalyst drivers. (8.3)

Try with Catalyst 8.2 instead. I had huge performance issues with 8.3 but when I went back to 8.2 everything went back to normal.

Did you reinstall windows after you put the new card in? If not, have you reinstalled the chipset drivers?

Hi Eagle,
Touched anything in your mobo Bios? The 8.3 Catalyst Drivers work well for a friend of mine in VISTA, who has a PowerColor 3870 X2.
PSU appears sufficient, and you have the same mobo as mine...
Enabled the PCI-E Gen2 feature in the Bios?
Out of Ideas at the moment, but that card should be faster than an X1900 series card. Will run COD4 on my HD 3870 and report the framerate.
BTW, what resolution you trying to play the game in?

Look over everything in bios, but I recently upgraded the bios, so I might have overlooked something.
Running CoD4 @ 1024x768 kinda played online with that res since late 90's

Hi Eagle,
Totally forgot to post results!!!
Runs between 60 and 120 FPS with my 3870 on max settings (@ 1360x768) - you should be realistically be getting higher than that!

Thanks for the reply Chaos.
I just noticed that when playing UT3 @ 1024x768 my gpu's are using like 10 to 20%... I have forced the speed on my gpu's to 825 and memory to 901. And I get like 50fps and that is with all settings on low.
I got a G15 keyboard with everest installed so I'm getting the usage of the GPU's on the LCD display.
Not really sure what I should do now tbh.

It appears like the drivers or the programs doesn't seem to be kicking in properly... like it's running everything in a "power restricted" mode...
course forcing the frequencies should work.. but the gpu shouldn't be any lower ten 90%
Are you running any other programs... backgrounds services or whatnot? anti-virus or such?

No background services or virus programs is running in the background. Could be a DOA card ? Maybe I just should try to return the card.

Hmm, I have checked my bios over and over again but I can't enable PCI-E Gen2 feature in bios. Under PCI Express Configuration I only see:
GFX Dual Slot Configuration: Auto
GFX2 Dual slot Configuration: Auto
Peer-to-Peer among GFX/GFX2: Disabled
GPP Slots Power Limit, W: 25
Then the only thing I get up is:
NB-SB Port Features
Not Port #02 features etc
None of the port features from 02 to 12 are available.
Anyone have an idea why?
