changing from ATI to Nvidia

(I don't realy know if this is the right place to post this but here it goes)

Ok I bought myself a 8800GT, wich will arive in a few days,to replace my 850XT.

I have a question regarding the drivers: I currently have , aside the "official"version also OMEGA drivers installed.

Now for removing all ATI drivers, will it be sufficient that I just dump the ATI folder on my C drive, or are there some sort of tools available wich remove ervything ?

Thanks in advance

well you can use www.drivercleaner.net if you wish, good tool.

I dont like spending money on software so my routine is

download the newest nvidia drivers, put them on the desktop.

deinstall ALL the ati stuff from add/remove, dont reboot between the deinstalls.

turn the computer off

remove ATI card

put in good hardware (nvidia).

boot up.

double click the nvidia driver on the desktop (res might be low until this is installed which is why I would download beforehand as surfing at 640x480 is painful).

reboot.

enjoy painfree graphics !

Like he said ^.

The first thing you should always do is use ADD/REMOVE programs in XP, or PROGRAMS and FEATUREs in Vista (Both found in the Control Panel)

That should be enough ....... however you can go further but be careful.

The ATI folder on the C drive is simply a temp location for downloaded driver sets and can be deleted at any time. Doing so does not UN-INSTALL drivers.

System Specs

How long has it been since you have re-installed your OS?

If it's been quite awhile, it would probably be better to do a fresh OS install.

That would make sure that there are no residual drivers/registry entries, and perk up your over all performance as well.
