SM Bus Controller and Radeon X1200
I posted this in the Radeon driver forum, got some views but no responses. Can anyone viewing this forum help me with my problem?
BTW, I reinstalled the driver using the driver mod tool and it still remains that my SM Bus is without driver association and I cannot play movies... howdy forum...I'm not an internals or hardware kinda guy so I've been enjoying the *ahem* "opportunity to learn" presented by loading Win XP on my P205D (which the good folks at Toshiba refuse to support since the laptop was "designed for Vista"). I finally got the driver loaded (it only took me three days to find this forum...thanks for the solution...). I downloaded ccc 8.whatever, edited the inf file to change the X1200E entry to X1200F, and used the "have disk" method to update the driver. So everything is working but the SM Bus. Toshiba P205D-S7802 ATI Radeon ® X1200 128MB-319MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory Hardware eyedeez: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4385&SUBSYS_FF001179&REV_14 PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4385&SUBSYS_FF001179 PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4385&CC_0C0500 PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4385&CC_0C05 I could not find an appropriate XP SM Bus driver on the Toshiba site. Neither have I found it anywhere else and I give up (which is why I am turning to this forum for help...). Ya'll got anything for me? Regards, Caley's old man... |

Welcome to DH, and I appologize for your not getting support.
The SM Bus has to do with your motherboard, so you will need chipset drivers. If you bought the PC with Vista, we are seeing there are no applicable chipset drivers available from the manufacturer. One of our members has posted some drivers, however whether they work for you model is a crapshoot. Check out the thread here, and good luck. If they don't work, you might want to shoot a nasty letter to Toshiba. This problem is all over, and its inexcusable.

That did the trick...many thanks for finally ending a very frustrating time. I do intend to flame Toshiba for their participation in the right wing capitalist communist pinko conspiracy to force us into vista....it is inexcusable...

In future you could vote with your wallet and buy a laptop that, even if it comes with Vista, has XP drivers. That's what I did when I got my Asus F3Sc. Came with Vista but when I downgraded, all I had to do was go to their site and find all the XP drivers for everything down to the webcam right there
