low frames AGP x1650PRO
Hello, I have just bought a ATi Sapphire Radeon x1650PRO, and the framerates are horrible in opengl games, such as counter-strike and counter-strike source. For a 512mb and clocks are 600 core and 800 mem, I get better fps with my 128mb 9250! Then I thought it over again, and thought that it could be because of my 400w power supply? Just want to know if this is true, because I don't want to go out and buy a power supply if it's not going to fix my problem. The drivers are also a mess, only drivers that work for me are the newest catalyst 7.12. other than the 7.12's it will say, 'driver not supported on windows xp (even though i'm running windows xp on sp2), or 'video card not compatible'. It won't let me install any drivers older than 7.12.. AH! I hope I can narrow down my issues, but I have no knowledge whatsoever about power supplies.
Counter-strike 1.6 fps : 80-100 on 640x480 resolution
Counter-strike source fps : 50-100 on 640x480 resolution
SPECS:
400w power supply
DFI Lanparty NFII chipset
ATi Sapphire 512mb x1650PRO
VIA Raid CARD
3 HDD's (2 are currently in a raid 0)
some old creative soundblaster card
1 DVD Burner
1 CD Burner
4 FANS (2 intakes, 1 side exhaust, 1 back exhaust)
AMD Sempron 2300+ overclocked to 2.2GHz on a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ fan/heatsink
overall, i can't believe my computer is still stable with all this hardware on a 400w power supply, I just want to know, if ANYONE who has had a low fps issue who has upgraded their power supply, has fixed an issue like this before, can post so i can know if i should upgrade my PSU?
other than that, any other help is appreciated, thanks!

Considering you have a low end system(old everything), I think you're running those games just fine and you could up your resolution a little. A better PSU could help a little, just depends... Having 512mb of ram on a card with a 128bit memory bus is pointless BTW.

Yes I would think so, but you're probably getting bottlenecked from something else in your system. Their may be an older set of drivers that will work better with your card though. It's hard to say really. But If you're getting 50+ fps, you should be fine. Try cranking up your in-game settings and see how much it affects your performance.

Welcome to DriverHeaven!
First of all, there have been issues with the ATI drivers and AGP cards since Catalyst 7.8. Some of these problems were fixed in the version you're now using: 7.12. However, that doesn't mean that all of the problems are fixed.
If I were you, I'd try using the latest Omegadrivers as he incorporated an older file that seems to make AGP work with the newer drivers.
But, be aware of the fact that this problem you're having is likely NOT related to the card itself nor with the particular system you're presently using. It's most likely just a video card driver issue that will be fixed (crossed fingers) in the near future.
In the meantime, if the Omegadrivers don't do better, you should revert to the Cat 7.7s or earlier if they'll install. That's the other problem with these HD2600 cards: They came out just recently and the older drivers doen't recognize the Hardware ID.
Good luck and do try the Omegadrivers. Let us know how they do.

well any other drivers besides the 7.12 by omega, ati or sapphire, are the only ones that work for me. i tried to install the 7.7's and it says 'setup cannot be completed, 'video inf error' and 'install a standard VGA adapter...' another strange problem is that, the drivers don't seem to go into system32 folder! when i uninstalled the drivers in the control panel, it said the file 'atiiexx.dll' could not be found. i then tried looking through my system32 folder and could not find any ati files in there. now i am still using the new 7.12's by omega and my half life lost coast and half life death match is a white screen , well first it turns black for about 5 seconds, then all white

That .inf error is most likely due to the card not existing when those drivers were released. Support for these cards wasn't added until later.
Have you tried manually updating the drivers from the Device Manager?

when i clicked on the .inf file in the omega program files folder, i got a huge list of video cards, i noticed that i went down to the bottom and i noticed radeon x1650 series and secondary, but then i went down further and i noticed they also had sapphire brands. the sapphires had the x1600pro but did i did not see my sapphire x1650pro in the list. should i try the x1650 series even though my card is a pro?

I think so yes, My x1900xt shows up as x1900series not a x1900xt, so it should work.

YES amazing! reverted back to the 7.7's and my fps was still low, but better, then i went all the way back to the 6.5's and all of a sudden my fps is 99-100 constant! 80-100 in css, and 30-50 in half life lost coast! manually installing the drivers never came to mind until you guys mentioned it, thanks so much for helping and i appreciate it a lot! ALOT.
thanks, once again guys!

It should, but you might have some issues in some newer games, then again I don't think so because the X2600xt wasn't made when the 6.5s came out... Have you tried the new 8.1 drivers with the AGP hotfix.

Hey
How did you get the 6.5 omega drivers to work with a x1650?? I use an x1650GT and there is no x1650 card whatsoever that is supported by that driver... so I am curious, what driver did you install?
