System Specs

I've recently setup 2 machines.. one with a SIS chipset and the other with a Via chipset..

Both of which have the 7.12's working without a single glitch or hitch thus far..

X800XL AIW and a radeon 9550

It started for me by first installing one of the drivers that didn't work, like the 7.7, 7.8 and after that the other drivers wouldn't install properly anymore

ATI X800XL 256mb
Latest Omega drivers (Cat 7.10 version) work like a charm, any Catylyst above 7.8 don't work especially D3D.
This card runs on my old Athlon XP 3200 with A7N8X-E(nforce-2) board, 2gb pc3200 ram. Old system but still provides decent (non sm 3) gaming for my kids

VisionTek X1950PRO 256MB AGP

I've recently installed this video card on an Asus A8V Deluxe mobo. Lots of blank screens, crashes and spontaneous reboots when running in 3D. Tried various driver versions and nothing helped including the VisionTek recommended 7.7 drivers.

When looking over the AGP settings in BIOS, I noticed that both AGP 3.0 Calibration Cycle and DBI Output for AGP Trans were enabled. Defaults for these are disabled, but I had changed them for BIOS optimization when the AGP card installed at the time was an ATI 9600XT.

That did the trick.... very stable in 3D now. I suspect the AGP 3.0 Calibration Cycle is the only option that needed to be disabled but I haven't tested any further.

If any of you with X1950 cards and A8Vs are having problems, check your BIOS settings - maybe you'll get lucky.

ATI X850 Pro 256 Meg AGP card in spare box.

The Sapphire card has worked with all of the Cat drivers (haven't tried 7.12 yet) however I use the Omega drivers because they are less bloated.

ATI's own X850 Pro is a different story all together. ATI's drivers have not worked since version 7.0. The drivers install fine how ever launching any game on it will not work. Continues to come up with a "No Direct 3D device installed" error. I have no choice other then the Omega drivers in order to game on it using that box.

The specs for the machine that the X850 is:
Asrock K7VT4A Pro with a VIA KT600 chipset
AMD Sempron 2800+
2 gig ram
ATI X850 Pro agp card
X-Gamers 5.1 sound card

Games that have not worked unless using the Omega drivers.
CoD 2
WoW
Splinter Cell (any of them)
Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield or Athena Sword
Thief 3
MoH: Pacific Assault

I have not tested any other games out of frustration and since using the Omega drivers it's worked fine so haven't wanted to go back to test it.

Im still unable to play Crysis and the same with Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Each time i try to run these 2 games the artifacts and these weird lines that taper down obscure my view and rendering me to be able to play the game.

I also play Guild Wars and Rome:Total War and i seem to have no problems with these 2 game as i think it is due to the graphics are less demanding. I've tried so much and many different drivers and still no look its so frustrating. I have posted about a month back now and you can see in more detail on page 2 of my post.

There must be a solution to this im sure its down to ATI drivers, please if any one can resolve this it would be highly appreciated.

Thank you for you time.

Judas needs some serious mental readjustingJudas needs some serious mental readjusting
System Specs

OK

i think i'm having isolated cases of success with agp cards...

I've now tried these cards in various combinations with these chipsets:

ATI radeon 9500
ATI radeon 9550se
ATI radeon 9700pro
ATI radeon 9800pro
ATI Radeon x800
ati radeon x800xl AIW
ATI radeon x1950pro

everythin except the 9550se is built by ATI

Chipsets:

Via KM400
Via KT400
Via KT400a
Via KT600
Intel (various) 478 socket
Nvidia nforce 2 ulta
SiS 6xx through to 7xx series

So far, i've used 7.9's through to the 7.12's with no case of issues thus far....

Did you install straightaway to the 7.12s without trying any previous versions?

Current working Drivers: Original 7.11

Drivers that did not work are the Original 7.10 and 7.12 and I have not tried Omega's 7.12 yet.

I did report to AMD on the cat feedback and they responded telling me to use 7.7 but i'm not interested in going backwards since the 7.11's work. Also the 7.11's fixed my problem of the 3d games just going to the desktop at random.

Thanks all!

this wasn't supposed to fix problems with CS or quake 3, just the problem with agp users that failed the directx diag tests. Can you complete those without problems?
