the Real HD2900 xt performance?
sup,
i currently have now a mid range rig (3800+, 1gbram, xfx7800gt) and im looking at the new hd 2900, i've read about 6 different reviews and seen 6 different reports.
some say it owns the gts and has about the same performance as the ultra,
then others say it barely scratches the 8800gts.
if anyone has the link to a real and trust worth website which reviews this card that'd be cool
Gamblez,

so far, it seems out of all reviews that they are geared to particular games as of now..... which games do you play in particular? the 2900 is better with particular engines like the ones in games like Oblivion, counterstrike, prey, half life, farcry and those things running a similar engine
the nvidia 8 series is geared to games like FEAR, COD2 and those other things....
also, you might wannt to build a new machine if you are seriously going to get one of those cards...... your system processor is pretty weak, your RAM is low, and i dont even know what else you have in there, is it a socket 939 system?

If you want a HD 2900XT, go for it. It will certainly be an upgrade to what you have. It does do better in some titles than others. There is no one right answer or review because it really does depend on the game in question. Also ATi currently has better Vista drivers than nVidia.
Get the cheapest one you can find and try to overclock the core to around 830-860. The lowest priced one I can find on newegg is 379usd with rebate:

Gigabyte K8n SLI
OCZ system elite 1gb
xfx 7800gt
amd 3800+
im mainly an FPS person, getting around 60+ frames @ 1280x1024 in cs:s
but i get around 30 frames in insurgency but everyone is getting around that, (beta)
BF2 is around 30-40 at all medium settings
and test drive is playable at medium.
stalker lags and jerks abit at medium - low settings but is still playable
i guess my next upgrade should be sticks of ram,
just not to sure if it's worth getting the video card since the 3800 is pretty weak now.
but i do wanna play crysis and all that stuff hella bad.
can i still kep my mobo if i upgrade to ..say a 5000+?

honestly, since you are going to upgrade the CPU, RAM, and GPU i suggest getting an AM2 board and a cheap X2 or maybe even a Core 2 if you can afford it, since, DDR2 is dirt cheap for even very high end sticks now, AM2 boards like 50-70 bucks for a decent one and the CPUS are generally cheap....
if that is the route you want to go, if you give me a maximum price, i will put together a list of components that provide the best performance to the buck...

AMD AM2 x2 Dual Core 5200+ 2x1MB Cache Genuine Retail Boxed CPU $165 “HOT”
320MB Generic 8800GTS DVI PCI-E VGA Card $383 “HOT”
Asus (AM2 940) M2N DDR2 Motherboard $89 “HOT”
2GB (2x1GB) OCZ System Elite DDR2 800 Memory with Copper Heat Spreader $154 “HOT”
total: $791AUD
the two items im a little concerned about are the generic 8800GTS and motherboard, the descriptions on most of the components are not very good.
if you meant that you had the 2Gb DDR2 800 system elites then just deduct that from the cost.... other than that, you are set
