Help!! Direct3d Probs. *Tried Everything*

Hi guys.. I bought this laptop A few years ago, I have a Radeon IGP345M, and I tried playing some newly realeased games. I was lagging pretty bad. I have a T1 connection so i thought it was my laptop. I decided to install a new ATI GFX card from their site. Suprised i couldnt install it due to some VGA or whatever crap. i googled around and found the mobility modder, i used it and it updated to an Ati mobility x1800. for the first day. i was relieved because the games i was playing wernt lagging bad anymore? great right? NO.

after. i tried playing another 3D game. but to discover that my DIRECT3D and the DirectX features were greyed out in DXDIAG. confused and pizzst off. i tried everything. pulling the bar over to accerlerate in troubleshoot, uninstall, clean drivers, nothing would enable direct3d for x1800. so i had to go back to my old crummy gfx card. the Radeon IGP345M. anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Specs

Sony Corp.
PCG-FR8 Series (i know. prety old)
Intel (R)
Pentium (R)4. CPU 2.66GHZ
448MB of Ram.

i just got those from my "system" im control panel, if u need anymore specs. just post. plz help asap? thx

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

First of all, when upgrading to a new video card it's possible that you will ALSO need to reinstall the motherboard/chipset drivers. Check your laptop website for newer motherboard/chipset drivers and install those. If there's a newer BIOS update, would be a good idea to grab that, too.

Once you've done this, run the DirectX Webinstaller again to update your DX.

Keep us posted on the results.

AND, good luck!
