9500 stops PC booting

Hi All. Having read yorobbie's posting I think he may have answered my question re failure to boot after the installation of my new graphics card.
I installed a Connect3d Radeon 9500 Pro, but after installation the PC refused to boot. Nothing no bleeps no signal O/P and no drive activity, it just sits there. If I put the old card back in all is OK
The MB is an Abit BE6 R2 with an Intel 440BX chipset, and I am running XP Pro, the previous graphics card was an ATI 3D Rage Pro 8Mb AGPx2. The power supply is only 235W but there is not much load.
I assumed that I didn't need to install an AGP driver, but I did look for one when the problem appeared, but couldn't find one.
Just in case I'm wrong can someone please advise me on this, in the mean time I will check the voltage, put the 9500 back in and check it again.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

When I first got my Radeon 8500 128DDR I was having the same problem of the PC not posting. The only thing I had to do was reset the BIOS and that fixed it. If there is some AGP driver for your motherboard, definitely install that.

Try resetting your BIOS, and if you OC at all set it back to default. (I also sort of think the 235w PS could be it....that's MIGHTY low.

Well I would certainly look at the power supply, I replaced my 235w with a 400w before using the 9500Pro so I can't say if it would have caused the problem, but I anticipated it would and so replaced it, when you say jus' sit's there do you mean on? with the fans going or simply no power at all?

Hi Rayder, many thanks for the reply.

I've been away checking voltages, I checked between the red and black wires, I'm not sure what the yellow is for, The voltage with the old card was 5.12 and with the 9500 it's 5.06, so it doesn't look as if that's the problem.

I am OK with setting the BOIS and even flashing it, but what do you mean when you say reset?

On the last attempt to boot with the 9500, the POST did start with one bleep as usual, but then froze shortly after the drive was detected. The second page never appeared, the drive light remained on permanently, and then after a few seconds went off.

I did look for an AGP driver on the Intel site, I thought I had found it as I choose 440 family and XP Pro to get to it, but when I checked it seemed that it was not for the 440BX chipset, and I didn't want to take the chance of making things worse by installing it.

I just tried throwing in a 250 watt power supply in my computer and experianced similar problems. The absoloute minimum you want is 300watts, but more is always better. My 550 watt power supply allowed me to get an extra 20mhz out of my cpu compared to the a 350 one.

EDIT:oh yeah, I have a r9700pro, but they are pretty similar

Which one is the newer one, 440BX or LX? I forget. I just get the intel inf update and don't worry about it.

They are about the same age, lx was the budget line of bx.

Don't forget to try booting with another video card and making sure there are no references to other video card drivers. UNinstall any drivers currently installed then clean with Driver Cleaner. Then perhaps regedit to remove all old references to display drivers.

Then try the 9500 and see if it boots.

I also agree that a 300 watt power supply should be a minimum.
