rebuilt pc, new all in wonder 9800 pro, black screen...please help
Im new to this site, and i have been working on a problem with my 9800 pro card for the last week. I have searched forums, updated drivers, updated bios, and im swallowing my pride and finally asking for directions. any help would be greatly appreicated.
let me explain my situation.
I just bought a p4 dual core, via chipset mb. New HD, loaded windows, followed the instructions to install the all in wonder 9800, and after windows boots, i get a bllack screen and my monitor goes into power save. I can hear the sounds of windows starting, and i can get picture if i go into safe mode or vga mode. I can also get picture if i use the tv out adaptor and plug it into a tv. If I un-install the drivers, it works, as soon as i try a driver, i get nothing. i have tried lots of different versions of the catalyst drivers, and omega drivers, but i get the same problem. i have installed the 4 in 1 via drivers, as i assumed it was a GART issue. If anyone has any advice for me, or needs more information to help me solve this, i would be forever grateful.
Thank you in advance for you help
Kempire.

Did you unplug the TV when using the monitor? Sometimes my old AiW 9800 Pro used to default to the TV only as my primary monitor then my screen would show blank

I have this exact same problem with my X1950 XTX. I also found one more post with the same symptoms.
Now, the thing that links this other post and my problem is that we both have a Sony E230 -series Monitor. What monitor do you have? I dunno how many years old this type of monitor is, but at least 6-7 years. Also, the other poster mentioned that Catalyst 6.5 still works for him, so it's versions 6.6-6.10 that have the problem. Have you tried Catalyst 6.5 or equivalent?
Now, my personal problem is that Catalyst 6.5 doesn't support X1950... I'm really hoping someone could help me with this. I've even contacted ATI, but probably those assholes can't do a shit.

Well you could try using Driver Cleaner and reinstalling the drivers except use an older version of them that would've worked.
That or reinstall Windows.
