is it possible to fake vram???
I have radeon mobility 9700 with 64 megs of vram. I am trying to play a game nwn2, which requires 128 megs. Is it possoble to some how to change how much vram the system sees, for example so that dxdiag would show 128 instead of 64. " I mean just so it would look like 128 instead of 64".
thx.
My Laptop is:
Dell Inspiron 9100
P4 2.8 HT
750 Meg Ram
60 Gig Hd
WinXp Sp 2
Ati Radeo Mobility 9700 64 meg Omega Drivers

You are SOL!
With a laptop and all, your only option is an upgrade I'm afraid.

One reply that doesnt provide the answer you are looking for shouldnt mean you write off the combined knowledge of an entire sites users. As for laptops and upgradeability your not strictly correct, ATI and Nvidia have upgradeable laptop modules. Your laptop might not be upgradeable but others are, see what happens when you make sweeping conclusions.
I thought i'd put up a link http://www.legitreviews.com/article/349/1/ used that one as they use a certain little program that goes by the name of DriverCleaner

I would instead look for a way to hack NWN2 so that it would work with your card.

I posted a link above with a picture of the unit. At the end of the day it depends whether you have the inspiron with onboard graphics (no you cant upgrade) or with the X1400 (which is upgradeable).

i have a x1400 running on my laptop currently, and it is pretty much really just an entry level graphics card, i'm wondering if the space of the x1400 is big enough to fit in a Go7800, and also tolerate the extra heat generated...

The Go7800 was really only meant for 17inch laptops though I do have a link to a guy who managed to modify one so it fit in a smaller case. Definitely definitely wouldnt recommend it. SO in a word no, unfortunately that card will not fit in your laptop.

I did look at your link, I was wrong , I didnt think that it was possible, so I checked inspiron 9100/xps parts list, and found out that there are uprades for my video card, allthoug when I checked the prices for them on e-bay $200 to $400 usd for radeon 9800 265 mobile for my laptop, it is just worthless. I can buy 9800 pro 128 meg for $45 for my pc, why bother. And allso, 9800 is ansient technology, never video cards have better pixel chader and gpu.
As for Nwn 2 128 meg crack, it would be extremely hard to do since secuROm 7.3x is quite new and it protects the .exe quite well, then all of the crack that were released for v1.0 and 1.01, they just removed the cd check, anyways that trick that I posted earlier worked for me, since my video card is on supported list, but nwn2 is so freaking bugged, and dev's after releasing 3 patches, totaling to 85 megs, still did not fix the issue, and they are planning to release another big one.
As for that first person that replyed to my forum post, pissed me off, he wasnt an amateur at this forum considering how many posts he made, unless he just makes useless comments like he did to me. I apologize to the rest who felt as offended as I did, but not to the guy that pissed me off.

Dont worry about it no offence took.
Odd that you found upgradeable parts for your laptop, i'd double check as the MR9700 was an onboard graphics solution and it wasn't till half a year later that replaceable modules surfaced, I do know that the Inspiron 9100 came in two variations with the later one featuring a still fixed onboard MR9800. Could you send me a link so I can check it out.
I took my laptop apart many years ago and wrote an amateurish review which you can find here http://www.laptopshowcase.co.uk/reviews.php?id=45 this shows the MR9700 in all it's naked glory. It was shortly after that Rock and Dell started to talk about upgradeable graphics. That laptop above is now mounted on a slab of kitchen worktop in component form and still runs.

Technically speaking yes what do you think an AGP aperature is, but then again look at the main memory vs. swap issue... sure swap works well (paging file and what not), but its many orders of magnitude slower than RAM. Same with VRAM --> system RAM.

First of all, before I even replied to you, I ran your question by someone else first. It was only after consulting with the other techie that I replied as I did.
As for the way NWN 2 plays, I've been playing it without problems for several nights now. I'm totally enjoying the experience and can't understand the complaints that so many others are posting. AND, I haven't even used any of the patches yet.
So, in summary, you maybe found a way to get the game to run, but, it doesn't work right. I think my original post stands fairly true then, you need to upgrade to get the game to run right.

Did I say the game doesnt work!, I never said anything like that, but if you had the checked the requirement to run the game, the specs that I have are more than enough to run it. As for patching: Obsidian, did not bother to release a patch to the mobile video cards, and the bug pups up a message to warn you that you dont have 128 meg video card, but the event handler that pops the message uses the same file name in the pop-up message as the game it self ( and it doesnt matter if you change the file name or not ), and when you close the warrning message the game closes as well. And if you read nwn2 atari support forum, you will find a section where all ppl with mobile video cards have the same problem. And it doesnt nessesari means that their system is a peace of crap that cannot handle the game. And if you read the forum you will find out that all ppl with mobile wideo cards cant play games, untill someone posted that temporary fix.
When I read you post, the impression I got is this: " Some one got a flat tire, then someone else tells him, Yo Dude, change your car, even though his car is not that old."
You just have to think in a positive way, not everething can be fixed just by changing it to something new. And not everyone can afford it.
