sapphire 9600xt & artifacts
hi there. i have a problem
i just bought a sapphire 9600xt and at default clock speed according to the ATI Tray Tools from catalys omegadrivers (based on 6.7) says the following ![]() is my brand new card screwed from the beggining? ![]() i installed it in my comp, use drivercleaner to remove nvidia drivers ( i had a MX4000) installed the ati, and installed 6.8. then i wanted my good old omegadrivers, same procedure, used DC to remove all ati drivers (the 6.8 i just instaled) and installed 6.7 from omega (rad_w2kxp_omega_38273.exe) the thing is.. i installed em cuz i saw some texture problem in Lineage2 C4 (sometimes) a small rectangle of the floor or the wall was kinda with funny colors (red.. green etc) so.. i never got to OC'ed this card inly a bit with the deafauls ati overdrive to 530mhz.. my comp specs are athlon xp1800+ @ 1917mhz generic 512x2 ddr1 (not in dual channel since the mobo dont support it) asus an78x-x agp fast writes on and the bios options that omega recommends as far as my mobo supports em mi card sits idle at 28C ( in my case i have 2 lateral 80mm fan intakes and 1 90mm on the roof outtake) so..what should i do? are this problem of broken drivers or hardware problems? tnx in advance.. any help or adviced is welcome edit 1 i have the option to try to return it and exchange it for another.. but is not going to be an easy task about the broken texture in L2, it goes away if i do an alt-tab and back to the game edit2 its the 128mb version Last edited by XTA; Aug 26, 2006 at 04:33 PM. |

Try updating your chipset drivers, verify those speeds are the proper ones maybe your card is overclocked. without you knowing it. Possible tray tools made a mistake..etc..I know the 9600XT's are good for overclocking but your getting artifacts right off the bat...so it may be a damaged card or could possibly be driver problems....

Clock speeds ares 499.5/297 i never got the chance to overclock it..
chipsert drivers im using 5.10 nforce.. lol i guess cuz i installed the 6.13 WHQL but it seems that old .ddl were left behind.. illtry to remove all of those and use the standard windowsXP ones.. if things go ok, i'll try the 6.13 tnx.. |

Use the ATI Tool artifact scanner too and make sure no anti aliasing is on or anything. If that's all done and it still artifacts...return it, its a piece of crap

NO, the card is just defective...hey look at it this way, atleast you figured out it had this issue..if you didn't it might have taken awhile but I think it would have got a lot worse..trade it in for a new one. Tell them it has some bad pixels..don't mention anything else...you just want a new model or a different one it's up to you. .good luck with your trade in. POS I would take it back ASAP

Hey guys,
I also have the 9600XT, although I have the 256MB version, not saphire, just ATI Radeon. I've been looking for the perfect driver set for it. I tried ATI standard, no good- very bad in fact. I've tried ATiExtreme, much better but I still get the looping sound crash in Valve games (like Day of Defeat : Source and HL2). Haven't yet tried Omega drivers though... Does anyone here have experience with 9600XT 256MB cards and know which is the best set for this card? |

I don't think it would do that in this situation. So what does he mean you burned the card? ny overclocking it? you didn't tell him you overclocked it did you?

Bout the "burn", ill put it in simple words, he has to see it for himself the artifacts and the card looking for mishandling and that the card was "born" witht those artifacts. cheers |

I understand now...when are you getting your new one? are you gonna go with the same model? I have a 9600Xt and it works great for me. It's a AIW version but it's still a good card...

99.9% sure.. in fact i disabled all quality enhancements just to be sure..
AA FSAA TAA (temporal, besides, ATiTool shows a warning when temporal AA was enabled) Antisotropic Filtering mipmap detail.. the ones that i tried on and off where DXT and geometry instancing, didnt have any change on the artifacts.. now im gonna do a ghost of the OS partition to another partition and do a fresh install in a couple of hs we'll see what happends.. |

Well... i did the clean install. and voilą! no more artifacts and L2 looks great so far, atitool.. cant have it running much time cuz im impatient, slows down my comp like hell and i had to reinstall a bunch of stuff/settings,but so far so good, b4 i had artifacts in less than 30 secs(cometimes almost inmediatly)
temps are a little higher than last time cuz i have my case wide stripped open and not extra cooling right now today is friday i'll test it throughly Quote:
maybe broken DX9? at least now we all now that a "broken" XP can do this with an old high end card i wanna thank u all and i wish i can give back more help than what i got here ![]() now that im relaxed bout this i wanna say.. i luv u all im not trying t be a suck*as, is just that im very thanklful for all the support that i got

Probably a bit late - but my 9600Pro 256Mb card starts to artifact if I push the memory even 1-2Mhz.
Its shockingly close to its limits. |
