ati x850xtpe and ati tool question
when I use the ati tool for controlling the fan speed, I get the blue screen with error codes from time to time. It doesnt seem to matter which drivers I use, but the cards stock fan speeds are less then desireable. When I set the fan speeds using ati tool, I can keep temps arround 105 F but without it, it climbs to 130 F. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

what's the powersupply &/or is the card directly powered or are there other things like a cd burner or HD powered by the same power cable that goes into the card
54C isnt that hot either... try 95C

78 is high and normal when ambient is above average, but not the max a X850XT can take, the limit is 100°C but i wouldnt test it, try keeping it under 70 to ensure long chip life, cool it with something good (Zalman, Arctic...)

I hope this helps a bit.
I have an x1800xt and was getting the BSOD when using atitool with full speed fan speed. (eh). After may tries I ended up using the NGO drivers for the card and for fan speed the rivatuner. I set it to 77% fan speed and since then I have zero problems. Try it/them, might help. *current card temp 59C with very high room temperature.

The limit is actually 125 for the ASIC package, but really with these cards the best policy is keep it as cool as you can, noise/cost be damned
