Pissed ATI Saphire X1600 256 Problems

Hi all,

Im having a problem with ATI's x1600 card its running fine in windows without the ATI drivers installed but when I install the drivers (either from the cd or from ati's site) the installation goes well but when I reboot i get the post screen and then the windows loading screen but then the displaygoes off I can hear my programs booting but the screen stays blank??. If i go into safe mode it work fine, I have lowered the resolution right down to see if that helps but still no joy also I have tried to go into windows via the va only mode and change the resolution but still no joy, im starting to rip my hair out now as im at a large brick wall, does anyone have an idea how I could get this sorted

Cheers

Gigabyte GA-8N -SLI Pro
Intel P4 Dual Core 3Gig (775)

i've never touched a pci-e card, nevermind a mobo, but it's an sli mobo right, so does that mean you can try the other slot for the card?
