X1900 San Andreas/NFS:MW rendering issues?
Hi all.
I've been noticing some odd graphical anomalies with the two games I play a lot at the moment. GTA San Andreas, metal fences have odd bands which move along the fence as I move or walk. ![]() NFS: MW, distant mountains appear very off coloured, which I've tracked down to lowering the shadow setting within the menu to 1 instead of full (2). Are these issues normal with X1900XTX's? The card isn't running hot, I've got it set with ATTT to have the card at 100% FAN at 62c, and it tops out at 76c running rthdribl, which it runs for hours without any artifacts at all, 1920x1200, full aniso. I saw these issues with the Omega 6.3 and 6.5's, as well as the original Catalysts. Any help much appreciated ![]() EDIT: in the above shot I'm seen mentioning that I am lowering GFX hardware acceleration...I meant to say sound, but thats a totally unrelated issue with my HDA X-Plosion and this particular game...

Make sure HQAF, AF 16x and AAA are enabled for GTA:SA
If that doest work let me know and I will reinstall the game. Not sure about NFS:MW haven't played that in a while. For future reference you may want to give the CCC settings and game settings you are running at.

If it helps I get that in GTA:VC without all the highfalutin anti aliasing and stuff on

Just ramped up the AA to 6X, and put all the AF settings to max, and also made sure the optimizations were disabled (disabled by default on Omega's), it appeared to make the railings look a little better, but the weird effect still remains.
I've noticed this effect on all small things, such as a 3D sign for a shop, looked at, at an angle so that only a small amount can be seen, the effect is visable then. With railings etc it is most pronounced, as they are made out of reams of thin material, which from a distance, appears to band like mad. The bands stay still if I stay still, and they move along as I move, so I assume this is the way the X1900XTX wants to render these particular things? I had this with GTA:VC too, not sure what I did to fix that though ![]() UPDATE: Checked on another machine with a 9700Pro, it's the same there...either it's been there all along though, and I've not been noticing it, or I'm suddenly noticing it now as I'm subconsciously picking out faults or something! |

I think it's the way the game is... It's sooo old and for PS2 thus, ugly optimzations? Many games have that sorta stuff...

Thats probably it
![]() What about NFS:MW? I can get the odd coloured mountains back to normal by lowering the in game shadow setting. I know that this particular game doesnt fare too well on ATI cards, causing blocky shadows, would it also be causing the mountain issue? Shadows ON ![]() Shadows OFF

Heh added some as you posted!
Thats the best I can do at the moment. It's always the mountains in that area that do it that I notice, it depends where your viewing them from the colour they'll be. It just looks like its overbrightening them or something, looking at the pictures. Perhaps I should just get myself some decent games?

in NFS:MW It just looks to me like the game isn't applying lighting to objects and the world when you lower the performance settings.
If you notice the ground doesn't have lighting near the car either so its not just distant objects. Also the burger road sign isn't being bloomed etc. I would say its a game feature rather than a driver bug. I suppose the game setting should really say lighting and shadow setting. I will get one of the people I know with a Nvidia card to try it out.

Thanks Spyre
I thought I'd posted already, but I didn't submit it, lol.I didn't see it on my nV 6800GT, but that would be because NFS:MW was seriously sluggish on that PC as the processor couldnt keep up (2500+ @ 220x10), so I had the shadows turned down anyway. If it's the way the game is rendering on all cards though, thats good I suppose, I was worried about my card being knackered! Thanks for looking into it for me Spyre, I appreciate it

No worries, I did find a bug with the game while testing but it only affects crossfire cards, if you have 4x AA and crossfire enabled (so AFR is active) and then alt and tab while the game is running it reboots the machine. So at least that can be reported.
