Thinking of Upgrading 9800PRO>x800GTO
Yeh, bassically because I need a card with more power for Medieval Total War 2.
But I need it to be AGP coz I can't be arsed to buy a new MOBO at the moment.
its in my price range, I found it for £114.99. What do you guys think of it.. or do you think I should save for somthing else?

I think I am going to sell my X800XL for a lot cheaper than that.
I ran it at 420/545 no artifacts all stable.. in all games and benchies.. didn't even have it for a year.
I am thinking about keeping it for a media center PC.. but I need more ram and a bigger HD for my main PC.
I think it's about time to put an ad in the DH for sale forum. Lot's of people still want to upgrade to cards like this and it is sitting in a box.. that seems fundamentally wrong to me.. LOL.
Look for it in there soon.

The XL has 16 Pixel Pipelines. The GTO has 12. The more, the merrier.

Isn't it 'iffy' that they can be unlocked? There's no question with the X800 XL. It comes with all of them available without having to do anything to the card.

Personally, I would go with the X800GTO. I just picked one up for $174 shipped. Yes, I was fortunate to get one that is unlockable to 16pipes, but the thing clocks like a demon!! Just got done running AtiTool for about 12 hours straight and its up to 455/575. The core is still going up, but the memory is 100% stable through 5 runs of 3DMark06. At bone stock (400/490), I got a 16911 on 3DMark01. After I get this clocked, I will be unlocking the 4 xtra pipes.
IMHO, you can't go wrong for spending that kind of $$$ to get X850 XT PE-area performance.
GTO all the way!!!!

You got one that is unlockable, but you haven't unlocked it yet?
Also 3dmark 01 is more a system bench now.. try 3dmark 03, 05, and 06- what does it score there?

that's too expensive for that card.
hell, I'll sell you a new X800 for £90 right now if you like
if you want to spend that kinda money get a GTO² and unlock it and overclock a little, they can still be found for around the 110 mark

I'm no genius at overclocking anything on my computer, I'm too scared Id break somthing.
But I would be willing to unlock those 4 extra pipelines in the GTO. But whats with this 'iffy' ? lol. And how hard, technically, would it be to unlock them. Considering I'm a total noob at this kind of thing.

Well Evga will soon have available the 7900GT AGP version and in a good price
If you can find one of these that would be even better
it's faster from the X800 AGP series
