A quick and generel question:

How can you tell if game lag is caused by your gpu or cpu?

generally by what type of cpu and gpu you have.

also if your pc doesn't perform well in cpu dependant programs or vice vera that can tell you as well

System Specs

If your CPU is 3 - 4 years older than your GPU then it may be a problem. Similarily, if your GPU is 1 - 2 years older than your CPU it'll be an issue
