I was talking to OmegaRED, I don't really need you to tell me this has nothing to do with this thread. I already gave the original poster my advice.
Now I'm giving OmegaRED my advice since he's also interested in the same thing and he thought games with nVidia's marketing ran better on nVidia hardware. I showed him the X1x00 series run BF2 better, and he then said the older nVidia cards ran it better, so I proved him wrong again.

Oh I see now. I guess I was wrong... this IS an ATI vs Nvidia flame thread. You proved me wrong too.
Why I thought it was possible to discuss the differences between the two manufacturers without it turning into a pissing match, I don't know.

I've seen other benchmarks showing the 6800 series (might have been ultra) beating the X800XL so I didn't make this up or buy into Nvidia propaganda. I formed the opinion based on benchmarks.

Anyone can create a custom benchmark that favor the strengths of one of the two cards being benched that are similar from different manufacturers.
It goes both ways.. There are benchmarks that also show the X850XT wiping the floor with a 7800GTX.. In those cases, that would mean the X850XT would beat a 7900GT as well. I have seen them, it happens in certain circumstances. We all know what card is actually faster overall. On cards like the X800XL and the 6800GT, there are benchmarks all over the place that show one being faster than the other in those specific benchmarks. We ALL KNOW that these card are very close in performance overall.
That is precisely why throwing up a benchmark and calling someone a fool is trolling.

Which brings us right back to my original post about the performance gap between the 7900GT and the X1800XT being very minimal, with one card beating out the other depending on what game it runs, and that the X1800XT 512MB card takes a slight lead in games that load tons of textures into memory.

Yeah and that is a huge thing actually. 512 MB of ram can get you a large jump in image quality in a lot of games today! That's one reason why I am upgrading again so soon. I realize I do want to set all those texture settings to max, not just very high.. (Q4, COD2, FEAR, Etc)
I have not even played FEAR at all yet.. Waiting for the new card to really get the full affect. Even though yes, it is a lot of offices, and whatnot, there is still some nice lighting and affects..

Well I'm pretty happy with my X1800XT so far.
3DMark 06 went from 2139 (X800XL) to 5302
3DMark 05 went from 5145 (X800XL) to 9030
Oblivion is running a lot better now and I can finally enable HDR. Yay!

UPDATE: X1800XTs are no longer carried by Canadian suppliers (just the uber expensive ati models)
I went ahead and ordered a EVGA 7900GT CO for $316 at ncix.com. All of their current stock of EVGA models are new stock that fixed the issues that have been plaguing the cards. Its a great deal and on till the 12th.
I really wanted to stick with ATI been using them for years cause I know all the tweaks and 3rd party drivers but their x1900GT doesn't stack up the any of Nvidias better priced cards.
Looks like I'm officially an Nvidiot

LOL...
You will notice the IQ decrease in SOME games.. but most of them you can't even tell.. The main thing is the angle dependent AF.. but in reality that isn't a big deal when you are actually playing a game.
The thing is though, you will be able to run the same games at such a substantially higher resolution and higher AA, AF, and in game settings higher, that compared to the card you had, the IQ is much better anyway.
I went from an X800XL to a 7800GTX (now getting the 7900GTX) and the IQ went way up in all games.. you will be amazed at how much faster games are too.
What clock speed is that one set to? It will probably be faster than my factory OC's 7800GTX... and that was pretty quick.

I'll probably overclock it a little bit provided its running ok. I don't play at higher resolutions than 1156x so it should provide a great experience in Oblivion.
