Sapphire X800 PCI-E 512mb
I have a Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 PCI-E 512mb video card, that I am having quite a bit of trouble with. Ok, I will turn my computer on and everyhting is fine til I start surfing the web or open other programs and it freezes then the screen flashes black then again and something several more times til it comes back looking fine at times and other times pictures on the web look all distorted, and sometimes everything is a greenish color (everything on screen). Now I had catalyst 6.2 and then 6.3 and I tried Omega drivers, And I tried an older omega driver still no luck. I can play Battlefield 2 without any interuptions but once it closes I start to have the problems again. Someone please help me I am beging you!! Thanks.... (also when I had the ATI Catalyst Drivers I use to get a VPU Recovery error, I thought that may help).

Is your card getting enough power from the Power Supply? And is the cooler making good contact with the card? Is that fan even spinning on the cooler?

The fan is spinning and the heat sink is touching the card, or it seems to be at least. I have a 480watt Power supply is that enough? I also have been getting messgges that say " Overclocking failed" on a DOS screen, then I have to press F1 or F2. Also been getting blue screen with "Memory Dump". But I got that with the old drivers (the blue screen) I went back to the latest Omega drivers, and the blue screen hasnt came back (yet), but I still have the back and forth black screen and the restarts.

Are you overclocking your card at all? Or how about the rest of your system? Is the rest of your system solid and stable?
Sounds like there could be some serious cooling issues with your card... have you tried controlling the fan using ATiTool or ATT?

Just so you know I am like a newb at hardware so you will have to explain the overclocking one too me... I know a little about it but not much. The rest of my system seems to be fine far as I know I just re-did everything motherboard, cpu, ram, and the video card. Now I have trouble. I didnt want to tinker in ATI Tools yet cause of fear of messin everything all up. I also get a message on start up saying "New Hardware found" please insert cd with the file ativmvxx.ax on it. Whats that? Thanks...

to oc just increase core/mem speed by 2-3Mhz each time. Then test it in a game and if it doesnt crash your good. Never heard of ativmvxx.ax before, did you download drivers from ATis site?

Don't worry about overclocking for now, we still have to fix your current problem.
Download and try out the ATi Catalyst 6.3 drivers and see what happens with that driver file request...
Ok, so power is plugged into the video card, right? Also, AGP8x is enabled and your AGP voltage should be at 1.5v. (You may also want to just see if upping the AGP voltage to 1.6v will help, you never know).
And one more question, where did you get your card from?

I have already tried the 6.3 drivers and it seemed to have made the problem worse. You do know that I have a PCI- Express card, right? Cause you were saying something about AGP. I got the card from NewEgg.com.

D'oh. Sorry about that biggin587. That's what I get for not reading through the entire thread carefully. Bleh.
Hmm, well, I'm out of ideas. XD
Anyone else able to help this guy out?
biggin587, if this keeps on happening, then can you try the card in a different computer to see if it's just your computer causing the problem?

Can you say dead CMOS battery?
Overclocking failed messages without overclocking are indicative of a dead CMOS battery.
Gotta go buy one of those coin cell batteries that you'd find on your lower right corner of the mobo

I wonder if you have installed the card in the right slot meaning PCI E ? remove and reinstall into another PCI slot and start all over again. Try not to install the drivers that came with the CD, instead give the new ATI driver 6.3 one more shot ofcourse after pre-installing the .net and the update for it. Good Luck

Well we gotta learn from them...Anyway I installed Catalyst 6.3 along with the WDM/ VIVO drvier casue my card supports VIVO whatever that is (can someone please inlighten me?) So now when the PC starts up it works for a min or two but the screen has like a contrast problem with a green or blue tint to it...I have no idea what this means.. Then it does its normal stuff discussed in the forum, ( blinking and refreshing of the monitor)Any help is appreciated. Also feel free to send some help through AIM if you want...Thanks
