Ati 1800xt Stock Cooler Question

would it be wise to remove the stock cooler and replace the thermal compound
with some artic silver? my temps dont go over 64 deg.F oc to 650-750
just curiuos if anyone else has done this and if it ran cooler?

Yes and no.
It would effectivly lower your temperatures by 3c - 5c but will void warranty.
I wouldn't play around with a new 1800xt until you see it is necessary for you to do so, or are very compfortable with the procedure.

Yeah 64* is nothing, acually those are VERY good temps for a Slightly oced XT.

np, and if you think that was bad, mine was running 90*C all night with the ATi X1900 Screensaver on! Its ok tho, nothing is wrong.

Did I read that right...doesn't go over 64 farenheight?! Wow, you must've got some hella good stock cooler happening there!

Well you can download a tool which lets you tweak the fan speeds according to your temps, and running games my x1800xt doesn't go above 65 degrees with the fan running on 90% of its max speed if the gpu temp reaches 67 degrees and it will run at 100% if it reaches 70 degrees. This is using the stock cooler aswell and a medium overclock nothing major. Its quite niffty and worth taking alook at.

Yeah but 64 farenheight is friggin room temperature, I think he meant 64 C

yea i meant 64 c i also use the fan control that speeds up as the heat goes up
