X300 Issues

Here is my situation, hoping you all can be of some assistance. I recently purchased a new laptop, and so far have had no issues minus one program. When attempting to run everquest my FPS rate falls to about 3 (everything happens in super slow motion), and I am fairly confident this has to be a video card issue seeing as how far more resourse intensive programs have no issues. And I think it is a driver issue specifically as I can run other games, videos, cad, etc with no problem.

I have a Mobility x300 and the only driver update I found that would install without errors on my computer was the 6599 one (eq recommended 6575 but I've been unable to find that one, and in thoery a later driver should work, yes?). This unfortunately did not fix the issue. Really, I found the ati site to be poorly laid out, and if not for these forums wouldn't have found the other one.

Wondering if I should try the mobility mod (http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/), or if there is another driver set that might work for me. If you would recommend this mod, which driver would fit my needs most? Not trying to be lazy, but just don't understand the layout of ATI's site

Here is my computer setup:

Pentium M 1.73 ghz (533 FSB)
1048mb DDR2 SD Ram (533 FSB)
40 GB HD @ 5400 RPM
128mb Radeon Mobiliy x300 PCI-E
Windows XP Media Center 2004

Any assistance would be appreciated. I do have the driver cleaner software and all that as well, so no need to explain the process of removing old drivers. Thank you guys ahead of time for your expertise.

Edit: Left out, Everquest did work just fine for about an hour before the low FPS problem occured the first time I ran the program, and the problem has occured at startup since then. Unsure if that is terribly significant as to what the problem may be, but figured it is worth mentioning.
